Anyone ever been? What's it like? How much is a pint? What kind of people tend to watch fights there? Cockneys, travelers?
One of the best venues I’ve been too for atmosphere. Depends on the promotion and card but all I’ve been to have been good. Pint is about 5 quid. People there depends on the bill, so I’ve seen everything from cockneys, Indians, travellers, blacks, Irish. Can be rough and ready though that’s all part of the fun there. Only ever see trouble at the bar when two pissed / coked up wankers fight over a spilled pint. If you’re not looking for it you’ll be fine.
Been there twice. Great venue, no trouble at all. 2 decent pubs within a 2 min walk. The Salmon & Ball, Dundee Arms. I’ve witnessed more trouble at The Copper Box & Wembley Arena. York Hall is probably my favourite venue, holds about 2k, so you get a great view wherever you are seated.
Cheers lads. Do they do weekly events and how much is a ringside ticket? Or any ticket for that matter? I've only ever been to the smoke once when I was 12 so how much of a journey is it from town to Bethnal Green?
Not weekly. Maybe monthly or every other month. Bethnal Green is on the Central Line ( East End ). Not sure about ring side, but l paid the standard £40 and got a great view. You can pay more and get upstairs on the balcony.
Any venue where you can literally stand at the bar and have a ringside view of boxing, does it for me! It has been a couple of decades since I last went, but tickets were relatively cheap, but drinks of course were West End prices.
York Hall is great Grew up around the areas close by so was in and out as much as possible Definitely some fighters bring a bit of crowd aggro with them but its kind of life that in all sports to a degree, well working class ones anyway Put it this way, if you go to enjoy a few pints and a couple of fights you'll have a good night
I hope you can... But sadly, it is not built for social distancing, and needs a (thirsty) crowd to keep going. I hope I am wrong, but I think it likely, we will not see boxing in the York Hall again.
They’ve stopped people watching whilst drinking unfortunately ! There is now a barrier so you can’t see the boxing from the bar & drinks can’t be taken into the arena. The 2 boozers on the main road are pretty decent for pre fight beers or a couple after !
Can actually see this or the Copper Box as the ideal venue for Eh Day's pay per puddings during lockdown. More likely to use this venue than a Football Stadium, O2 or other large arenas.
