Tucker did far better v Tyson than Bruno did and he beat Douglas who was far better than anybody Bruno beat, different ckass, Bruno couldn`t take the shots Tucker stopped Douglas with and Tucker took Tyson`s best shots so could take Frank`s best punches, he stops Bruno in the 6th or 7th after struggling for the first few rounds.

I like an 86 TNT. Terrific jab and light on his feet, loose and fit.

Both were good boxers and good punchers, Tucker probably the better boxer, Bruno probably the harder puncher. Let's face it, though, Bruno was never known for his survival skills. I think Tucker did do notably better against common opponents. I think the outcome would be similar to every title fight Bruno ever lost. Bruno would start well, but gradually gas out, and get stopped, somewhere between round 8-12

Nothing more to say. Bruno´s jab would win some rounds too here until the fight ends.

I'd think Bruno would have the jab to win some rounds the the power to be competitive but as this I'm thinking is over 12 or 15 rounds then frank will tire badly and if in shape tucker would stop him late or take a points victory

Bruno would gas yet again and never came close to beating a fighter of Tucker`s quality while Tucker beat Douglas.

    Im going to say Bruno.

If people are going to base this on how well these two did against Tyson then there are things to consider that are often forgotten.

Firstly Tucker was one of the very few championship opponents Tyson had who had fought at a good level as recently as Tyson had.

Where as when Frank Bruno fought Tyson, Frank had been inactive for over a year and had not fought at World level for 3 years. But a lot of name fighters were kept just as inactive then.

This is a key factor. As good as Tyson was, his performances must be enhanced by the ring inactivity of his championship opponents. Holmes, for example, hadn’t fought for years. Since Larry last won a fight Tyson had amassed 30-0 run of a 32-0 career, And it wasn’t just Larry who was disadvantaged like this.
Thomas had fought on the undercard of Tyson’s last two fights but he had not won a fight against a rated fighter for two whole years. Tubbs had not beat a world class opponent since weeks after Tyson started his professional career some three years and 31 fights earlier..

So the difference in ring activity between Tucker and Bruno when they fought Tyson means a lot if Tyson is the comparison.

Tucker was hand picked to become a champion in order for Tyson to unify anyway. 2 fights in 1984. 3 fights in 1985. Four fights in 1986. Nobody knew who Tucker was. Nobody knew who he beat. Dave Jako? James Broad? These were nonentities. Yet Tucker wound up bypassing legitimate contenders like Carl Williams, Bruno, Witherspoon, Thomas and Tubbs (who were all kept idle) and met a just as obscure Buster Douglas in a vacant title bout.

Then around the time Tucker met Tyson, the young champion had begun to go off the rails. Tyson took two weeks off his training camp to go AWOL. He was partying in Albany telling people he wanted to retire. Jim Jacobs eventually begged Tyson to go back and train for the fight, which is how Tyson appeared heavier and less trim against Tony Tucker than against any of the other championship opponents he fought. It is not an excuse look this up. Tyson was pulling his hair out. He was troubled.

So these factors might flatter Tucker against Tyson. Tucker is well prepared and Tyson isn’t. And he’s also one of the few guys who came into a Tyson fight having recently done 10 good rounds in a competitive fight last time out compared to Tubbs, Bruno, Spinks, Thomas, And Larry Holmes.

Then outside of losing on points to Mike Tyson, what do we have? The fights with Norris and McCall could have easily went the other way. Norris did beat Tucker in a rematch. The only time Tony fought 3 name fighters in a row, he lost 3 fights in a row... LKOby7 Seldon, L10 Akinwande, and L10 Norris.

When you look at it like this Tucker has done well to be as highly regarded as he is... and to be fair to him Tony was a talented prospect for a very long time with management and injury problems.

Frank Bruno is not much better but I feel Frank was less disillusioned with the sport, always switched on, a winners mentality and once he reached top level only really lost to great fighters. Tucker is not a great fighter.

When faced with elite opposition, Frank Bruno often fought to “ win” whereas Tucker fought to “ survive “ or just barely get by, perhaps explaining why Frank was stopped by the same men Tony went the distance with.. I mean does anyone really think Tucker gave Lewis the better fight ? I don’t.

Yes it reminded me of Joe Bugner arguing that he did better against Ali than Henry Cooper did. Two fighters who approached their biggest fight completely differently.
