I thought it was a pretty damn good card.

 

People are so desperate for sports to return I think any middling cars will return decent numbers.

A massive fight like AJ vs Fury would sell over 2 million in my opinion, especially as its not like you can just go watch it down the pub or round your mates house right now.

 

For a empty venue HW fight ... Usyk-Chisora would be good.

Two HWs who don't mind fighting out of their comfort zone.

Perhaps a good time to get Usyk's skills noticed and for Chisora to make a statement that he's in good form.

 

I don't follow the numbers that closely now but I don't think UFC was doing record breaking numbers before this virus took over the world. I'm sure Mcgregor and Jones maybe, but I think ppvs without them were not doing too well. 700k definitely seems a bit high for who was fighting and their usual box office appeal.

Yes, we're missing sport. I'm even ready to sit through some Bundesliga.

AJ Fury sells 3 million in normal times if not more, nevermind these days.

Joshua Parker sold 1.8m

 

Would have done under 250k in normal circumstances.

 

And they still pay their fighters RUBBISH Money

Their "super stars" who only last in the sport for a handful of years before they are gone only make $1m. How crazy is that.

McGregor should have been making $10m+ straight up purse against Khabib. His purse was something like $1.2m and most of his money were his own sponsors.

UFC is a joke monopoly.

The PPV numbers were excellent but with no other sport it was interesting that the ESPN non PPV undercard, which had several good fights as well as a good main event with Cowboy vs Pettis,aparently did less then the undercard of the previous PPV card UFC 248, which had nowhere near the quality of this UFC249 card which had much bigger names and better fights.

 

Actually $100 annually is cheaper then what I pay now. I will take that gladly!

 

The sport drought had a lot to do with the big numbers. There were also a ton of free publicity too , as news outlet throughout the country was reporting on Dana Whites relentless push to air an event during the virus lockdown.

It was a perfect setup for huge numbers and the event was pretty entertaining.

 

The low nimbers for the events from rest of the week combined with UFC249 undercards low numbers will pretty confirm there has been little benefit of UFC being the only live sport on tv.
The UFC while massive,is still very much a niche sport that relies on it's hardcore fan base and holds little interest outside the biggest fights,for the majority of sports fans from the major sports like NBA,NFL and soccer.
