A lot of people thought Tarver beat Jones in their first bout v each other though and was Honeyghan more of an underdog v Curry than Barkley was v Hearns?

You keep proving that you're new to the sport. Every single day you prove it.

You couldn't possibly have been following boxing in 04 if you don't understand how huge an upset Tarver knocking out Jones was.

The thought was that Roy ONLY struggled in the first fight due to being weight-drained. Everyone believed he'd have more time to acclimate to 175 in the rematch, and there was NO ONE picking Tarver in the rematch... no one in the boxing media, and no one on the various forums. That was peak era for boxing forums, but you probably were like 6 at the time, so obviously you wouldn't know.

It was without question the biggest upset in boxing since Tyson-Douglas.

No way, unless you`re talking about odds, Ali had been fading for a few years before he met Leon and was showing signs of parkinson`s after his bout with Shavers, in his late 30`s he was there for the taking.

 

And as for Curry-Honeyghan/Hearns-Barkley, that isn't much of a debate either.

Curry was considered right there with Hagler as P4P #1 when Honeyghan beat him.

Hearns was not considered the best fighter in the world when Barkley beat him.

I was 30 in `04 and Jones first fight with Tarver was the first fight I watched in years asw I had lost interest in boxing since the late 90`s, Jones really struggled in his first fight with Tarver and here in the UK there were manty that thought he lost and there was doubt whether he could correct the result in the rematch among British pundits, the date I started replying and posting on this forum was May 2017, I started watching boxing when I was 4 years old with my dad, Hagler v Minter ws the first bout I ever watched.

 

That's troubling to hear. I would have felt a lot better if you said you started watching boxing in like 2016... you would have an excuse.

I was talking about the bookies odds, Barkley was as unheralded as Honeyghan before his bout v Hearns.

Donald Curry was being compared to Leonard and Robinson when Honeyghan beat him. He was CONSENSUS top 2 P4P with Hagler.

Hearns had no aura of invincibility around him when he lost to Barkley - Leonard and Hagler had already cracked his chin.

 

This is embarrassingly wrong. Utter nonsense.

Lewis was a 20-1 favorite over Rahman. Jones was only a 4-1 favorite in the Tarver rematch.

I won money on Tarver in that fight.
