In most sports the current guys are better than previous eras, why would boxing be any different?

    Haha! We definitely were.

Remember when Leeds were a driving force in Europe under O'Leary? Haha, the good old days.

The old days made me rate managers even more than now due to the lack of money they had. They were geniuses.

Useless thread. Should the all time greats from the past live now, they would follow modern training methods and still dominate. Contemporary greats would be their only challenge.

You are holding religious beliefs for those old fighters. I am naming facts and numbers and underline my whole argument that almost everything in our world developes and is better then in the past.
You just live in your own nostalgic bubble.

Maybe someday when you understand boxing you would see why they were better. It´s also hard for you to see because it´s clear that you want the modern fighters to be better. I don´t know why, you ´re maybe some s&c coach or you´re a boxer who wants to convince yourself that what you are doing is gonna make you superior. I used to be like you and thought old school boxers were garbage and slow. But once i really started watching more fighters and understanding what they were doing, my mindset totally changed. Im 17 btw, so theres no reason for me to be biased and say that old school boxers were better. Old school fighters trained more, fought more and were more dedicated to their craft than now. While in other sports it is totally reversed. While modern fighters go on a vacation or relax, these old school guys are getting ready for their next fight. In other sports like soccer or basketball, they now train more and are more dedicated than before. You can do all the strength and conditioning you want and the moder training methods. It´s still not gonna give you better ring iq, better ring generalship. It also doesn´t take a genius to see that they were better. Broner and easter jr were way better athletes than mikey garcia and they still got their ass whopped. I don´t know how you can know that fighters throw more punches today because they have been counting punches only for about 30 years. From what i´ve seen they definetly don´t throw more punches nowadays. For example sugar ray leonard and thomas hearns both trained the old school way, still theres no better athletes in the welterweight division than these 2.

Asking to boot me really shows that you are the one that is not willing listen to any Of my arguments and that you are just bound to your old views on the sport. I dont agree with your opinion at all but i would never say that you should be booted because of your opinion. I dont care about modern fighters, i am not riding their cok like a lot of guys here do about those old guys. I would never ask for banning you cause of what you are saying.

Mayweather is the best welter of all time
    https://www.google.de/amp/s/syndication.bleacherreport.com/amp/1135177-floyd-mayweather-is-the-best-of-all-time-according-to-compubox-at-least.amp.html
Isnt the old shool mentality hit and not get hit?

go ask some russians or cubans or mexicans who ray robinson was and they will ask who on earth are you talking about?
And i guess that is one of the big reasons why this whole sport only consists out of latinos and russians and little americans( there is no american champion in the 3 higher weight classes) like back in the day, even though they have 10x the financial and promotional backing compared to foreigners.

And you can look up many punch stats too old fights:

LOL, mayweather best welterweight of all time. Just stop embarrassing yourself. Because of compubox he is the best??. I can´t believe how delusional you are. Compubox didn´t count any of the real best welterweights. I also guarantee you willie pep had better connect rate than floyd and he threw more punches . But compubox doesn´t say who the guys are that you fight. You can figh a nobody and land every punch. It is not that hard to land when only throw single or double shots and potshots. He has never fought an prime atg. How can you say that fighters throw less punches because of muhammad ali?? Thats one fighter and he is a heavyweight. Also ali wasn´t known for thrwoing that much. He moved around jabbing feinting, throwing lead rights and throwing combinations once in awhile. You´re comparing a heavyweight with a small guy. For example sugar ray robinson and kid gavilan threw so many more punches than mayweather. If people in cuba or mexico don´t know ray robinson, what does that have to do with anything?? Robinson whopped kid gavilan 2 times, who is the 2nd best boxer to come from cuba. Btw i guarantee you russians know sugar ray robinson, i see many times russian names in the comments, saying he is the greatest. I guarantee you willie pep had better connect rate than floyd and he threw more punches. Btw mayweateher also trained old school and was taught old school way by floyd sr. He did a bunch of roadwork and chopped wood when he was young. All floyds move are all old school. Just watch this video and you will see even floyd says that modern fighters are lacking, these are old school basics.

Instead of quoting facts, just take a break from the forum and do some ‘old vs new’ comparisons.

    Go through a few eras.

    Choose a few different divisions.

You will then see that the sport just ebbs and flows.

    It’s very, very simple.

You don’t have to name facts and numbers.

All you need is a functioning pair of eyes and an understanding of the sport.

    That’s it.

NOBODY thinks that today’s MW’s are the best MW’s of all time.

NOBODY thinks that today’s SMW’s are the best SMW’s of all time.

NOBODY thinks that today’s LMW’s are the best LMW’s of all time.

There’s many divisions today that are WEAKER, with LESSER fighters than in previous years.

Go and do some research on the divisions.

Below is a perfect example of the sport:

Today’s CW division is great. It’s thriving. It’s a deep division. It’s the strongest it’s been for a long time.

Today’s SMW is the complete opposite of the CW division. It’s not thriving. It’s not deep. It’s the weakest it’s been for a long time.

This is a prime example of how the sport ebbs and flows.

You’re that focused on what’s happened with other sports, you can’t see what’s right in front of you, order your nose.

    You don’t need sprinting statistics.

You just need to watch some boxing.

The MW division today is good. It contains some great fighters. But it’s nowhere near as strong as what it was 25 years ago. The group of MW’s from the early 90’s were a far more talented group than today’s guys. If you dropped Canelo and GG into the MW mix of the early 90’s, they would not be the best 2 MW’s in the division.

Your theory is ridiculous and ignorant.

As soon as you realise that just ONE of today’s divisions isn’t as good as what it was in a previous era, it will blow your argument to smithereens. It will totally destroy it.

So instead of hitting us all with all of these stats and telling us all that we’re living in a nostalgia bubble etc, just go and look at the divisions.

The proof in what we’re telling you is at your disposal and can be accessed in just a matter of minutes.

Now you’ve spent so much time on this debate, surely you have the time to watch some old fights.

Go and watch some MW-SMW footage of Mike McCallum, James Toney, Roy Jones, Michael Nunn and Bernard Hopkins etc.

Go and watch their early fights and then come back and tell us where the division has seen 25 years of progression.

If you want us to debate with you, then do some homework and try and back up your arguments with something other than sprinting data etc.

The sport does not progress as a whole over time.

Like with all sports modern athletes has advantage to look past training methods pick and choose what are best training methods. Obviously technology and more tactics to study gives advantage too

You have yet to put forward a proper argument.

All of your so called arguments are based upon the progression of DIFFERENT SPORTS.

A group of 8 sprinters running from A to B against a clock, where the times are recorded in millieseconds, has nothing to do with 2 men fighting each other in a ring.

But boxers nowadays do pretty much the same thing as before the only thing new is really padwork and some s&c exercises. But sparring and roadwork is way more effective than those things. When you use the heavy bag correctly it is way more useful than throwing multiple punch combos as fast as you can on the pads. If use the pads correctly like a emmanuel steward it can sure be helpful but technical sparring is way more effective. They did alot more technical sparring back in the day because they fougth so often so it was no point in taking alot of punishment in sparring. Sure also some sprints and s&c can be helpful but if we look at the guys that had the best stamina in boxing history, they all ran like 6-10 miles everyday. Salvador sanchez and marciano never got tired in 15 rounds and they ran 8-10 miles everyday.
