Alright, I get this is not the type of marquee matchup that will get a lot of replies but I'm fairly confident it's a topic/fight that hasn't been proposed on this forum. This would be an outstanding fight between two guys that were at their best around the same time but never fought. I think Dicanou was the harder puncher while Cloud was the more active. They both were about the same size with Cloud being about an inch taller. Who wins this fight between two solid pressure fighters that had some pop? I could see Cloud outworking Dicanou like Pascal did but then again I could see Dicanou catching him on the inside with a hook and putting Cloud to sleep. What do you say? Hopefully someone cares LOL.

    I care.

It would have been a good fight.

I'd favor Cloud though. Much better resume. Has wins over Julio Gonzales, Clinton Woods, and Glenn Johnson.

I have serious doubts that Diaconu beats Johnson. Probably doesnt beat Woods either.

It seems hard to believe now, but when Cloud destroyed Julio Gonzalez he was touted by many as the future of 175. Never panned out that way, but Cloud wasn't bad.

I always thought that he was a better version of Jeff Lacy.

I was four rows back from the ring when Cloud fought Johnson. It was a very physical tough fight. I was really impressed with how Cloud hung with a tough guy like Johnson. I could hear Johnson grunting as he was digging to the body but Cloud was always firing right back. It was a really good fight to see live.

I haven't watched Cloud-Johnson in a LONG TIME, but from my recollection it was a very good fight. I remember Cloud badly hurt Johnson at one point.

I wanna say that fight was on the undercard of Devon Alexander vs Andres Kotelnik, but I could be TOTALLY off on that.

I remember it was the undercard of something...

I didn't think Hopkins was going to beat him. We all saw Hopkins hold off a strong Pavlik but Pavlik was not a full fledged light heavy like Cloud was. I really thought Cloud would overwhelm BHOP but he never did. BHOP was so smart, he completely handcuffed Cloud that night.

Nah, I picked Hopkins to beat him. The result was as expected for me.

Cloud was pretty limited and not much of a thinker. I knew a guy like that wasn't beating Hopkins.

But Cloud wouldn't need to be a thinker in this matchup. Diaconu was a crude brawler.

You are correct. I will never forgot that night. Cory Spinks lost to Bundrage on that card as well. There was talk about him fighting Floyd next had he beat Bundridge because Floyd was looking for a belt at 154 at that time. That would have been a great payday for Corey. Instead, that was pretty much the end for him.

Yeah, I just thought the wheels were finally going to fall off Hopkins against Cloud but I was wrong. There was something about watching Cloud live and up close like that that made me think he was going to be the guy to beat BHOP but man was I wrong. Cloud was pretty much a limited banger that had good stamina and at his best could outwork/out fight a lot of really good fighters but not special ones like Hopkins, Stevenson and Beterbiev. If you are going to have three losses on your record/ no shame in losing to those three.

Oh damn, I'm impressed by my memory then lol.

And yeah, I do remember when Spinks lost to Bundrage, but Cory was pretty long in the tooth by that point.

I never hated Cory Spinks like most fans did.

Leading up to the Mayorga fight, like 99% of posters on every forum were predicting Mayorga to kill him. I was part of the 1% who called a Spinks upset. I knew he was gonna school Mayorga. That was a HUGE upset at the time.

Yeah Corey's style was definitely not for everyone but he was from my hometown, a good guy and the son/ nephew of two of my favorite fighters ever. I have seen him fight more times then I can count as both an amateur and a pro. I forgot to mention I also saw Cloud beat Yusef Mack live as well. Didn't have as good of seats for that one but he was impressive in that one as well. Don King use to have a lot of cards in St Louis back then with Corey and Devon in his stable. I was lucky to hey to see a lot of really good fighters on those undercards.

Spinks actually pulled off two impressive upsets.

Roman Karmazin had just beat up the highly regarded Kasim Ouma to win the title, and his first defense was against Spinks.

Most expected Karmazin to stop Spinks, but Cory outclassed him.

I had Spinks fighting to a draw with Jermain Taylor. He really boxed the Hell outta Taylor for several rounds in that fight.

I was at Spinks vs Karmazin. That was a very good close fight. That was a really good card as well. Maselino Masoe vs Randy Griffin was a very good fight on the undercard. Jean Marc Mormeck and William Joppy also had tune up fights that night. I got to meet a few of those guys at the at the weigh in. Joppy was super cool.

For the mediocre light heavyweight championship of the world lol.

Nah just joshin. It's well matched fantasy fight this one.

I'd go with Cloud 116-112 sort of decision.

Why did the fans hate Spinks?
