Inoue is the best puncher in modern boxing

Going as far back as Tyson, I can say that Naoya Inoue is the best puncher. I've not seen a boxer who can throw powerful punches consecutively from any angle while remaining in balance. Normally when a boxer throws a combo or flurry he/she needs to sacrifice power, for example Suger ray leornard. Even Tyson could not throw every punch with power the way Inoue does.

If Inoue had elite defence he would be unbeatable in my opinion.

Agreed but his defense has definitely improved in the last few years. Watching his earlier fights and now, I think he’s clearly making an effort to better his defense apart from his monster power. The man is a MONSTER!

Yes his defence has improved but his fight against Donaire shows that he still tends to switch off in fights, especially when he's multitasking. For example, when he throws a punch he forgets to move his head and that's how Donaire injured his left eye in round 2. Also when moving away from punches he tends to forget to move his head too. I don't know whether he is admiring his work but his father needs to fix this, and then I can confidently pick Inoue against even the much bigger Lomachenko.

Confidently pick him against Lomachenko? We don't even know if the kid's power will be anywhere near as destructive at 122lbs, and yet we're already assuming it will carry up to 126 or 130lbs, the presumed weight of the matchup??

Inoue's power is pound4pound number 1. He could probably crack a heavy weight's chin if he landed clean on them, not my words, ask the iron chinned Dave Allen.

The only question that should matter if Inoue ever fights at 126 lbs or 130 lbs is whether he is physically strong enough to avoid getting manhandled and mauled by bigger guys, and of course whether his defence is good enough to avoid taking too many clean shots from harder punchers.

    Crack a heavyweight's chin? Geezus.

Your comments remind of the stories we heard about GGG knocking down/out heavyweights in camp etc (yet he couldn't stop Canelo, despite nailing him flush several times).

Like I said, we'll see if his "next level" power carries up to 126lbs. If it doesn't, and I suspect that it won't, he would be outboxed by Lomachenko and maybe even stopped.

Like I said, those were the words of Dave allen and he would know best as an actual pro boxer.

If Lomachenko doesn't respect Inoue's power then unfortunately Inoue is getting knocked out, but it won't come to that because his power is legit and unlike Wilder's hail mary right hand Inoue actually knows how to hit his target with any punch.

Good catch and agreed. Have noticed that from him as well. His father is rather strict so I hope the Donaire fight was a wake up call to work on that more.

As for Canelo, why is it so hard to believe that Canelo has a stronger chin than the heavy weights Golovkin was sparring. After all Canelo walked through Kovalev who punches like a mule.

Don't get me wrong--Inoue is an superb talent and literally light years beyond Wilder in terms of his "delivery system."

As for the rest of it, well, you're relying on pure conjecture. We'll resume this convo if and when the Japanese standout moves to FW

Yes, it's a weakpoint of Inoue's. Opponents can exchange with him and know exactly where Inoue's head will be during the whole exchange. He doesn't make this mistake in every exchange but one is too many in a sport where all an opponent needs is one punch you don't see coming.

Kovalev didn't hit Canelo with anywhere near as much heavy artillery (if much at all really) as GGG did.

Generally speaking, it stands to reason that a man who fights at 118 (and who maybe walks around at 130lbs) would find it rather difficult to drop/stop heavyweights who tip the scales at 225+.

But hey...I could be wrong. In which case, perhaps we should abandon weight classes altogether. (Have you noticed how a fighter's punching power often appears to decline in inverse proportion to his moves up in weight? Why do you think that is??)

The fact you just stated applies in general but Inoue is a special fighter with special power. Not every heavy weight will have a stronger chin than every middle weight, that's what I'm saying.

Nicholas Walters could come out of retirement today and knock this oompa loompa out. GRJ would blitz this kid too, in 4 rounds or less.

Inoue is something else - but he's not a 130 lbs boxer. Not even 126! He's small even for a bantamweight - and I would hate to see him move up a couple of more divisions to face someone as good as Loma. That would likely end badly for him.
