They would meet at 126 lbs, that's only fair. Lomachenko has been caught clean a few times so there is a question mark about whether he can survive being hit clean by punchers like Inoue, Davis etc.
The reason Kovalev didn't hit Canelo with many heavy punches is that he was terrified of getting countered any time he let his hands go, just like Chavez, and Golovkin too some times, in their fight.
I don't know how well his punching power will carry up through the divisions, but regardless his punch mechanics are insane. Every shot sounds like a shotgun blast going off, and he doesn't even seem to put that much into them a lot of the time. Nor does he seem to be a hugely powerful guy for his weight division, the way Beterbiev is. All his power seems to stem from perfect technique, balance, accuracy and weight transference.
Yeah, I completely agree - his punches are a work of art. I couldn't believe my eyes the first time I saw Inoue fight years ago. He has a complete mastery of balance. I can't think of any other boxer that can throw the same punches he does, without falling all over the place or loosing steam in their punches. To be honest I struggle to understand where Inoue's power actually comes from. With Wilder you can see that he puts everything into his right hand and he generates a lot of momentum due to his long arms, with Beterbiev, he is as strong as an Ox, a big light heavy and has heavy hands. May be Inoue has really strong legs, I remember him lifting the significantly bigger Donaire off his feet by simply standing upright after being put in the clinch.
So he was wearing high heels to hit a heavyweights chin? Get real. His body shot is the most devastating shot he has to be honest.
The reason why is immaterial, dude. The larger point is that Canelo didn't have to "walk" through a whole lot from Kovalev.
Inoue is overrated. He still has many things to prove. I saw Inoue hugging Donaire for a dear life after he got caught by some solid punches in that fight. He needs to fight big name fighters or unify the World Championship titles to prove that he's the real deal.
Lol, he couldn’t even stop a past-it Donaire. He’s too textbook. It’s great fighting against C level guys but soon as he stepped up (and despite how show Donaire was, he was a major step up which says a lot) he couldn’t do what he usually does. It was the same story with GGG. The hallmark of having ATG power, speed, skills etc. Is when you still look like you have ATG power, skills, speed against Elite opponents. Mikey is another one everyone was going crazy about. People seems to love textbook style, but textbook is too basic and all the elites in history surpassed textbook. They needed to add something in there that was their own. The most textbook elite I can think of is Holmes. But Ali, Tyson, Duran, SRL, Pac, Floyd, RJJ, SRR - these guys aren’t “textbook”. Slow, methodical type of guys. Mikey Garcia, Tsyzu, Inoue - they reach a very high level, but usually not elite of elites.
He clinched exactly 3X in that fight — 2 after Donaire landed fight-ending type haymakers and once when they got tangled up. And you forget that he had his orbital shattered in the second round.
