@Mendoza and others who follow amateur boxing, how good is Hrgovic? How would you evaluate his pro career so far? When do you think he will be ready to fight the likes of Joshua and Fury?
He’s only had 10 fights, he’s 27. He needs to get moving ! Although saying that his age probably isn’t too much of a problem ( Fury is 31 ). I reckon he is in the ‘up & coming’ bracket along with Dubois, Yoka etc. I don’t see him in the hunt for a title anytime soon as it seems sewn up at the present time ( Joshua, Fury, Whyte, Wilder, Usyk etc ). Maybe in 3 years time a couple of the guys mentioned will have retired. Then we should see new blood jostling for a shot.
I've scaled back on him a little. I think he's decent, likely a top 10 guy. But there are some good fighters coming through and he's going to have to make some sort of mark soon
Him being 27 isn’t really a big issue for a heavyweight tbh. Heavyweights can still perform really well when they’re around 33/34. They last longer than the other weight classes.
He has been fighting top guys even helping them prepare for title fights even bf AJ turned pro he caused Haye to pull out of the Fury fight and toyed with Wilder in sparring way back when ,he’s also gave DDD a good walloping , he’s the best heavyweight by far all around when you consider chin and power Mixed with a balanced attack . He’s going to be a handful at this point and I’d favor him over anyone in 2 years as it stands he’s a solid 240 at 6”6 currently ,he’s not some average guy off the street .
Hrgovic had a great amateur career, he won a gold medal at the European Amateur Boxing Championship, a gold medal at the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships and a bronze medal at the Olympics, I think he will be a good professional boxer and I hope he gets a chance to fight for the title of course if he deserves it...
Totally agree. As l said Fury is 31. The only slight concern is the fact he’s only had 10 fights. He had about 90 amateur bouts, not sure if that’s a lot or not really.
90 amateur bouts is not far off the total amateur bouts AJ, Fury & Wilder all had combined. So yeah he’s got decent experience there.
He looks a bit stiff and open for me, but solid enough. Reminds me a tad of Vitali, and not just facially.
No one, unless you consider Bakhodir Jalolov ( Age 25 ), who's 6-0 as a pro and went back to the amateur's for they Olympics an amateur. He made news winning a tournament, and brutally knocking out our Richard Torres, the best American super heavy. Jalolov has world class potential. This content is protected Justis Huni ( Age 21 ) is highly skilled Aussie -Samaon boxer, but he's too young to make a big impact now. Huni in many ways the opposite of what Smaon pro boxers resemble. He's fast and skilled with a more tall and narrow than short and wide type of build. There is some slickness to him. Aleksey Dronov is a big, well ( is 6'4" 1/2 big now? ) Russian who throws hard accurate punches. Only 19, he's too young to make an impact on Men's amateur super heavyweight boxing, but the stuff is there to bloom into a serious talent in time. These two jr amateur champions are the best pro prospects. Huni can get a bronze or silver in the Tokyo games with the right draw. I don't see much beyond that. It's weaker than average field at amateur super heavyweights. Most fans don't understand at super heavyweight a 18-21 year olds just aren't physically mature or experienced enough to compete with the best men age 24-33 Here are the results of the last world amateur championships https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_AIBA_World_Boxing_Championships As for Fury, his career is on shaky ground. Will he get suspended again for PED use? How fat is he? I think Joshua stops Fury who's not as accurate or as hard to hit as some of his fans think. I doubt Fury fights Hrgovic now in in the future. Fury likes the limelight, and he needs boxing for it, so he might be able to keep a clean and fit act. We'll see.
