    Against the same level of competition, too.

    Of course that's the counter argument. In terms of the # of quality opponents it's an interesting comparison, as Jones last bout at LHW was the rematch against Hopkins 10 years ago. So you can't even really make the argument that RJJ just padded his record vs LHW bums later in his career. His level of opposition at LHW was pretty solid beginning to end.

    Ward's wins over Kessler and Froch are head and shoulders above any of Ottke's whereas B-Hop's superior single win is a guy who Roy also beat, even though he came out short in trilogy. Not to mention, Roy dominated his oppositon during his reign at LHW whereas Ottke should've had like 4 losses. I don't see the comparison.

    And I haven't seen enough of Pavlik at LHW to compare him to LHW contenders, nor do I think he's relevant to Hopkins' reign there.

    If you've seen Pav vs. Hops, you've seen Pav's LtHW career :D

    I think Wards win over Kessler is above any win Ottke had, even though Kessler was faded and with vision problems, he was still a very good SMW. Agree with that.
    The Froch win I think is fairly debatable. I can understand someone who didnt watch the SMW division before Calzaghe beat Lacy thinking that but it is debatable as Froch was on a run of last minute win over Taylor, debatable win over Dirrell, loss to faded Kessler, win over Abraham coming off a loss, debatable win over faded boiled down Johnson. The same Johnson who Ottke beat far more convincingly when prime and not boiled down. Ottke also beat Mitchell when he was a champion and Mitchell had KOd Liles, which was a decent SMW win.

    What were the losses? I do understand the argument with a possible Reid loss when Ottke was faded, possibly even a loss to Larsen, but both were debatable. Many say things like this and never watched Ottke.
    You rate Wards win over Froch but im sure some could ague and say Froch could have a loss to Pascal, Dirrell, Johnson, Adamu and has an actual loss to Kessler as well as having a win where some found the decision of the ref questionable in his first fight with Groves

    That is a fair comment.
    I actually think Pavlik would be able to compete with some of the LHWs like Woods, but it is only a feeling based on having watched the careers of both and nothing more.

    anyhow back to our debate, basing from when these fighters went into world class/title reigns onwards at the weight -
    You rate Jones for overall wins as Jones was 20-6 at LHW over Hopkins at 9-4-1 1 NC
    but you rate Wards SMW resume above Ottkes SMW resume on what you base over 2 wins, because overall Ward was 7-0 to Ottkes 22-0 even though Ottke overall fought far more highly rated SMWs during his time?

    Yes, that is true that that was Pavliks LHW career, but on that one performance, I dont think it means he wouldnt have some success at LHW. That is of course just based on a feeling but I would struggle to call it if Pavlik were facing Woods for example.
    Consider Hopkins beat Tarver just as convincingly as Pavlik and had Tarver looking more troubled, as well as having Tarver having to take a count, and you have seen Tarvers LHW career also

    Tarver coming down from weight for Rocky Balboa will take it's toll.

    Now now. We know Calzaghe went up in weight, travelled to America and beat both, but this is about the better LHW resume between Jones and Hopkins

    I have heard it said, but many fighters gain weight during fights, before and after.
    There was I believe around 6 months from when filming had finished to that fight, and I read Tarver would walk around at over 200lbs and he was fighting again at LHW after.
    With all of this in mind, do you think it was a big weight loss problem when Tarver lost to Harding?
    Tarver had been beaten convincingly previously and I wonder if Hopkins was just all wrong in style for Tarver

    Wasn't just 'weight', he bulked up a bit for Rocky. I don't recall any weight loss issues during the Harding fight. He lost a UD, came back and KO'd Harding later. No biggie.

    Half of the forum is ******ed. B-hops accomplishments at light heavyweight are pathetic compared to Jones.

    Hopkins fought the better competition. He also beat Jones at the weight.

    At 175, Roy Jones fought 26 times against:
    * Virgil Hill
    * Joe Calzaghe
    * Mike McCallum
    * Reggie Johnson
    * Bernard Hopkins
    * Antonio Tarver (three times)
    * Julio Cesar Gonzalez
    * Clinton Woods
    * Glen Johnson
    * Montell Griffin (twice)
    * Felix Trinidad
    * Eric Harding
    * Jeff Lacy
    * Merqui Sosa
    * Glen Kelly
    * Richard Hall
    * Derrick Harmon
    * David Telesco
    * Otis Grant
    * Omar Sheika
    * Anthony Hanshaw
    * Richard Frazier
    * Prince Badi Ajamu

    Bernard Hopkins fought 15 times at Light Heavyweight against:
    * Sergei Liakhovich
    * Joe Calzaghe
    * Antonio Tarver
    * Roy Jones
    * Chad Dawson (twice)
    * Jean Pascal (twice)
    * Tavoris Cloud
    * Kelly Pavlik
    * Ronald Wright
    * Joe Smith Jr.
    * Beibut Shumenov
    * Karo Murat
    * Enrique Ornelas

    Jones went 20-6 (could've been 21-5, if not for punching Griffin while Montell was on a knee and on his way out).

    Hopkins was 9-4-1 with 1 no contest.

    Bernard winning at the weight against Jones is a plus. But I don't think he has a better resume at the weight. Just like Fury beat Wlad, but I think Wlad has a better resume at the weight.

    Hopkins beating Jones at LtHW is a 'fluff' win. Only means something to Hopkins...

    He lost a UD to Hopkins also
    I take it you haven't watched the first Harding fight. Harding was very dominant and scored a KD. Tarver was barely throwing back in the last few rounds.
    As for the bulking up bit? And?? He had a long time to lose weight. Had a training camp etc and was boxing in his next fight after at LHW and won a title at the weight again after.
    Many fighters have gained weight or bulked up.
    You say the loss to Harding was no biggie, but it was almost as dominant and bad a loss as he suffered to Hopkins, which was a long time before Rocky Balboa
