GOOD QUESTION Boudreaux was 19-0-1 with a draw against Stan Ward, that explains his ranking, Coetzee beat him, and he lost a split decision in his last fight to then undefeated John Tate Howard Ko Smith decisioned Boudreaux at #6, so he could get knocked out by Shavers on national TV. He had a lil better predentials than i'd rememberd, and him and Bobick would have been a real natural. I DOUBT SERIOUSLY THEY WOULD HAVE ROBBED DUANE LIKE SCOTT, i'D GIVE BOBICK A TEN ROUND WIN IN THIS ONE. GRANTED HE GAME PLANNED AN AGGRESSIVE BODY WEAR DOWN ATTACK NO PUSHOVER BY ANY MEANS BOUDREAUX WAS TALENTED TO A DEGREE.
Who knows? He must've had good management who talked him up to Johnny Ort at the Ring. The only guy he "beat" of note is LeDoux, and that was nearly a year after Ring first ranked him.
Yes. KO Magazine had its own ratings, and they also published WBC, WBA, etc. ratings. I usually bought Big Book of Boxing, World Boxing, Boxing Illustrated, International Boxing Digest and KO Magazines. World Boxing and KO Magazine's ratings were consistent. I believe World Boxing and KO Magazine were published by the same people. Not sure though. I know you use Ring Magazine ratings for consistency sake, but every boxing magazine had its own ratings system. Ring was just one of the magazines. Boxing Illustrated/International Boxing Digest published the sanctioning body ratings, too.
Big Book of Boxing, World Boxing, Internaltonal Boxing and KO were all published by the same company, based out of Rockville Centre, NY.
I read that the Ring got in trouble for manipulating its ratings for the Don King promoted US Boxing Championships and that Ledoux v. Boudreaux took place as part of that tournamemt. Still surprised he was rated by any of the World sanctioning bodies. Of course they have been known to sell ratings.
LeDoux-Norton is an interesting fight — Norton controlled most of the action through about 7 or 8 rounds but aged a couple of decades by the end of the fight and had nothing left. LeDoux knocked Kenny down twice in the 10th round and pummeled him from corner to corner. IIRC, it ended when the bell rang with Norton nearly tipping over the ropes completely out on his feet. You could argue for a 10-6 round there, certainly no worse than 10-7. It ended up with a draw, which I guess is fair, but the referee probably should have stopped it in the final round.
Ledoux had a pretty good run in 1979 and 1980. He fought Ron Lyle, Ken Norton, Mike Weaver, Marty Monroe and Larry Holmes. You could make an argument he should've won the Lyle and Norton fights along with the Monroe fight. He was actually expected to beat Weaver, but Mike jabbed his head off. And he was clearly thumbed by Holmes. Back then, Holmes was kind of notorious for thumbing. Regardless, it was a good run.
I don’t think Holmes thumbed him on purpose. Honestly he had no reason to do so — Scott wasn’t going to beat him. Gloves weren’t thumbless or thumb-attached back then (although I’ve seen fighters thumbed in so-called thumbless gloves) and a guy who jabbed as much (and as well) as Larry, it was going to happen sometimes. But there’s another reason: Holmes gave LeDoux the title shot as a payday because Scott’s wife, Sandy, was struggling with cancer and he needed the money for her medical treatments. She lived several more years in part thanks to his earnings off that bout.
DC YES I FIGURED THEY DID, KINDA LIKE Boxing Illustrated did , but they quit WBA/WBC completely by 1976, and by 1972 they quit printing the dates of the ratings, I've researched until I turned a powdery Blue. Cannot get an accurate account of the WBA, and according to the WBA, The fight of the century, Ali was not ramked, and had to win a court order to get that way afterwards. How ya gonna do ratings buisness that way??
