* Wayne McCullough is the new trainer of Dennis Hogan. Hogan will most likely travel to the States for fight camps to prepare for his fights in USA. This can only be a good move leaving Rushton. RIP Champion. https://www.sportingnews.com/au/box...ompson-passes-away/1la3b4hsumay911a46ns9rqhf9
Rushton is clearly doing something right in and out of boxing which is why so many are joining his team. Anyone who has followed boxing even for a short time and knows what they are watching, realize that he is far from the worst trainer, some people are obviously unable to put personal views aside to continually make hyperbolic statements about him and Horn. While there's benefits to the keeping same trainer etc you can't blame fighters like Hogan who've come up short a couple times,to change to a better team to hopefully get to the next level.
Its clear that since Dundee Kim left Rushton's gym that he has been losing more fighters in Hogan and Camilleri. Kim was obviously the main reason these guys stuck around but poor Kim was the one that Horn and Rushton decided to throw under the bus after Zerafa mopped the floor with Jeff Horn.
Rushton is clearly one of the worst HIGHER PROFILE trainers in boxing. No reasonable person who has followed the sport for a reasonable amount of time would disagree with this.
Yep I think Dundee Kim was the only guy keeping him in line, now Rushton is left with only the Horn brothers and Jeff is on his way out. Looks like Ben Horn is the future of team Rushton LOL.
Old concept and no appetite from the average punter imo............ Didn't see Horny's name in the mix, is he back as a school teacher now?
* Joe Camilleri will be working with the Bulli Blaster. Dundee still training him but BB will be now in his corner for future fights. * Cameron Hammond hoping to fight later this yr on Horn vs Tszyu undercard against Kiwi IBF no 15 Bowyn Morgan. CH had a world ranking but lost it due to inactivity. This content is protected
It'll be interesting to see Morgan's team's approach when things can resume now that he has a ranking. Obviously his fight with Charles Bellamy got called off but I'm interested to see if they risk taking risky fights or not, no that he ever seems to fight outside of Christchurch anyway.
Despite fighters continuing to join his gym,he hasn't got any kind of high profile even in this country outside of being Horns trainer, but anybody who wasn't trolling or had followed the sport for even the smallest amount of time would know this.
Tszyu is a fringe contender who only known in Australia, based off being the son of a former great and didn't have any big money fight options outside of this Horn fight, which is why they need to manufacture an opponent for him via this contender series. Horn on the other hand has a profile around the world thanks to his win over Pacquio and as a former world champ and win or lose will have options after this fight.
Horn's profile around the world took a nose dive after he was battered by a fringe contender in Michael Zerafa so don't kid yourself, Horn needs this fight more than Tszyu Jnr does.
Sensei Rushton will do just fine. He has the Fortitude Valley Karate championships coming up. Where he has instructed one of his lesser able students to perform an illegal leg kick on his rival dojo's best fighter if he gets to far in the tournament.
* Due to Covid 19 & border restrictions Steven Spark ( Toowoomba ) opponent for July 11 Terry Tzouramanis ( Melb ) is off and local opponent Michael Whitehead has stepped in. This will be live on Smithy's Gym Studio on Epicentre TV. Will be good test for power punching Sparks ( all nine wins by stoppage ) as MW has never been stopped in 11 fights and gone distance with Ben Kite and Ty Telford. * Paul Upham from Fox has said Aust boxing on Fox card will be made on a case by case basis. * Jeff Fenech has said he gave Johnny Lewis 25 % of his purse's above the industy rate of 10 %. They are not on speaking terms. Have heard from people in Marrickville that JL is not like the media darling in real life. I'll leave it at that.
