The belts matter. Being a champion is what elite sportsmen aspire to be and will remember when their careers are over, but ultimately there are too many of them and too much politics and jargon involved
The belt is only as good as its champion, ultimately. They do matter but not as much as they maybe should.
Spot on With the HW champs we currently have, they matter as your fighting for legacy and a ton of cash Now if Charles Martin was a champ today people may make more money elsewhere and only be fighting for legacy and decent cash
The Prince is on the comeback trail my friend, notice how these SHOOK champions don't want to mention his name?
It’s like the difference between Man United v Liverpool in the Champions League final compared to them playing in the Charity Shield. People watch the Charity Shield anyway but the real silverware (Belts) is what they’re playing for.
Is it balls haha with or without the belts this fight is absolutely massive!! No one gives two shits about a match between anyone who contests the community shield !
Simple answer is that the belts only matter when they need to. It's the Schrödinger's Cat principle - they are both the pinnacle of boxing, and completely meaningless at the same time. Fighters can devote their entire career to winning one, and then drop the same belt because their mandatory challenger has too many syllables in his surname. Like everything else, at this point they are a promotional tool.
Belts do matter especially in an era where the top fighters are looking for an excuse not to fight each other.
