A grade-A match up produced a grade B+ result. This was a good fight. While Morrison clearly won it, he also showed better chin and stamina than other fights. Foreman landed his share and also fought dirty, throwing low blows when he was behind. After two warnings, Mills lane took a point. Foreman landed some more low. Yes--I think it was intentional. Foreman also showed a good chin, taking some flush shots. I find the action here better than what we have today at heavyweight. My scorecard. Morrison by four rounds. The judges saw it: Judge: Dalby Shirley 117-110 Judge: Jerry Roth 118-109 Judge: Patricia Morse Jarman 117-110 This content is protected
Tommy’s people did a good job preparing him for that fight and came in with a good game plan. He fought intelligently.
Good fight. Morrison's best IMO. Morrison had his flaws but his hand speed and power were incredible. Its rare for heavyweights to have that combination of hand speed and power. I felt he greatly underachieved due to his lifestyle. This fight showed how much talent he had.
While there is some truth to that, the fight showed differently. Foreman put on pressure, and made Morrison fight back. Both guys were hit cleanly often. Morrison had just enough of a slip and duck defense to prevent that 2nd or 3rd punch from landing after the first one did. And he never lost his his wind until the very end of the fight. Morrison wasn't running until the very end of the fight. If anything this was one fight Morrison put in his road work for. His chin wasn't as bad as critics say. Foreman landing some clean shots proved that. It was his stamina that got him KO'd by Mercer, a fight he trained for mixed in with loads of women and booze.
Biggest win of Morrison in his career that proves when he was at his best he was at the level of Holy and Lewis.
I had it a draw or Morrison by 1. George was the boss the majority of this fight. A somewhat overrated performance by Tommy because it was a strategy he could not come close to replicating against non-geriatric elite fighters.
Yes, that was the key to the whole thing...Morrison had an intelligent strategy..he was disciplined and stuck with it the whole way...he was a smart fighter that night....sure beats Moorer's performance vs George.
You know, at first I balked when I read this, but just that one, specific night you might be completely right. Just like how I think Joe Frazier the night of the FOTC was the greatest ATG heavyweight who ever lived. This content is protected
And some people say Tyson couldn't have take Foreman on. Any top fighter that moved well would be trouble for poor ol' Foreman. As hard as he could punch, he was just too damn slow.
Moorer would have won too if he wouldn't have been stupid at the end. All he had to do is move and he wins.
