Was wondering how you think it would go?

Foreman goes the distance for sure, thus performing better?

    Its Foreman form Holyfield fight.

Ali still wins. Foreman was too damn slow. My dead granpa is faster than he was. Even a cripple is faster than Foreman.

The fight would probably be similar to Holyfield-Foreman. Ali would have a much tougher time, though. Ali by SD.

Ya, it is rather odd. Actually I heard Foreman say once that he was confident that he would have whipped 70s George Foreman.

Ali hand speed would be too fast, therre would have been less punches coming his way and old George would have been very sluggish in that heat, Ali was very hard to hit in the rope a dope, he would have boxed old George`s ears off.

George makes the final bell without a scare due to him pacing himself but chances of victory for the preacher moments of "shock" are scant the great speed disparity and Ali's style make this quite humiliating.

Ali '74 on points. At 32, he had the fast hands, won't be knocked out against '91 George if 74 George couldn't do it and he'll be quicker and more active than 40 plus George who'll last the distance in this one.

I may be the voice of dissent and say its a unimpressive decision win for Ali...i think Foremans improved cross arm defence makes Ali"s counters off the rope less effective...the older George is more selective and pounds the body well on the rope a dope forcing Ali to revert to dancing way to a decision...10 rounds to 5

You know, Ali vs. old Foreman could be quite boring actually, Ali vs. Foreman '76 could be very interesting, I'll have to start a thread on that.

Ali could stay in ring center and outbox Foreman. No need rest on the ropes. Ali still had blazing quick hands compared to other heavyweights.
Foreman was a bit tricky and would land a good shot once in awhile. N

I think Ali forces a stoppage. The accumulation of punches would eventually get the referee to call a halt. Ali knew how to turn on those flurries. Remember Holyfield almost had Big George outta there.

    Ali TKO 10th

Ali stops him in a fight George is never in, this wouldn't be close at all

90's Foreman was bigger, stronger, could withstand more punishment, trained harder and knew how to pace himself a lot better.

I really dislike the notion that the Old Foreman was in any way better than Prim Foreman.

I just do not see it at all.

The idea of pacing, is more the idea he was slow as mollases and was happier to lose on points so didn't go for the kill.

Ali knocked out a prime version of George. I have zero doubt he knocks out any version of George.

I don’t think Ali would be countering off the ropes.

The rope-a-dope was an invention of necessity in that fight ... he could not keep Foreman off of him and Big (Young) George was cutting off the ring so effectively that Ali had to adjust and make it a mental battle of wills (which was his greatest advantage anyway). You can see early in the fight Ali isn’t retreating to the ropes and covering, his game plan was to stick and move and he couldn’t make it work as George was too aggressive, strong and adept at cutting him off.

Against Big (Old) George, Ali at this stage still had enough legs left to utilize lateral movement. He picks Foreman apart for a fairly ho-hum UD.
