My opinion needs no validation, it's a subjective sport and this a forum to debate such a subject.

But no there's nothing arbitrary, I rate Jones at LHW, I rate Robinson at MW same with Hopkins.

If I was to do it your way and have a top ten list based on fighters who have competed in that range, Froch wouldn't be in it either.

You post your top ten, I'll do the rest mate.

It is arbitrary because you’re relegating certain fighters out of the division they competed in and won championships in ... and we’re not even counting people like Jake LaMotta.

There’s no rhyme or reason for Roy Jr not to be in here when anyone with even the most basic knowledge of the sport rates him at or near the top ever to compete in the division.

As a matter of fact, I see where Froch competed in the 170s a few times in his career so I’m declaring that he’s a light heavyweight and thus not eligible for this thread. :)

Of course I'm not counting Jake LaMotta, I rank him at MW.

I rank fighters in one division, the division I have seen them at their best. For me Jones was at his best as a LHW.

Froch was at his best as a SMW, as were the other names I mentioned, imo.

Do a top ten of the fighters you feel were at their best as a SMW, I'll do the rest mate.

There’s no sense to what you’re saying.

Just because you rate Roy at LHW, it doesn’t mean that you can’t rate him at SMW as well.

Can you not see how silly it is to omit Roy, but then rank Toney at number 4?

They both fought about 7 fights at the weight. Toney may be fought even less than that.

They were both only there for 2 years.

You could even argue that Roy has a better SMW resume than Toney.

I’ve no issue at all with you ranking Toney at no.4. But you’ve only done that on a H2H basis, based on ability. Because his best wins were against Barkley, Thornton and Littles. So you haven’t ranked him that high based on his accomplishments or his resume. So again, if you’re ranking Toney at no.4 based on ability, then Roy has to be there too. It makes no sense to rate one but then ignore the other.

    My top 4 would be:

    Roy
    Toney
    Ward
    Joe

I only rank fighters in one division, I feel Roy was better as a LHW than as a SMW.

If I rank guys in multiple divisions based on how good I think they were in each division SMW would be a minefield.

    OK:

    1. Roy Jones Jr
2-10: Whoever else fought at a championship level at 168 who you don’t consider a super middleweight.

Thanks for letting us play your weird game.

Well that sentence seemed to reference Roy.

    That’s how it came across.

What do you mean you only rank fighters in one division?

So if you rated Floyd Mayweather at LW, you couldn’t find a place for him anywhere at WW?

    It’s bizarre.

Roy was at his absolute peak at SMW when he was 25-26.

You rate Toney at number 4, but he was actually better at MW.

His best wins at SMW were against Barkley, Littles and Thornton.

Are you going to tell me that you wouldn’t rate James at MW or CW, if you were asked to name your ATG’s at those 2 weights?

    Stop being silly.

It’s absolutely bizarre, especially as he has Toney at number 4.

Pssst. Don’t tell him Henry Armstrong held the world title in three of the original weight classes at the same time. He’ll explode.

It's not a weird game. If you think Froch isn't in your top ten just give a top ten, I don't understand why you're struggling with this.

He fought Ceferino Garcia in a 4th, deserved the decision by all accounts.

I wouldn't expect you to know that though.

Boxing isn’t horseshoes. Why would I mention a title he didn’t win?

But you presumably only recognize him in one weight class. SMFH.

I did. RJJ at No. 1, all the other super middles you don’t count as super middles at 2-10. You just didn’t want to accept it.
