As an aside, all this talk of toney satiates my thirst for his earlier fights.

I'll rewatch some of Toney at MW and reconsider my position on him.

This is the last ill say on ranking fighters in one division only, its not something I've always done. Its something I was inspired by when I was reading about Nat Fleischer and I decided I liked it enough to adopt the policy myself. It simplifies things greatly, I rank fighters I've seen in the division I believe they were best at.

I'm not going to go round in circles on this, that is what it is. Accept it or don't.

Probably yes. SM isn’t that old or deep of a division.

If I had to do a top ten list at SMW, something I haven't done before or certainly not for a long time anyways, I think I'd go

    Ward
    Calzaghe
    Froch
    Kessler
    Eubank
    Benn
    Ottke
    Beyer
    Mitchell
    Liles

    God what a bad division.

I feel like Groves and DeGale would probably beat some of those as well tbh.

It's really really shallow at the bottom end of a top ten!

Floyd was a safety first fighter at WW, with hand issues.

You’re not a respected journalist writing a book.

    You’re a fan on a boxing forum.

It doesn’t simplify anything, it actually does the exact opposite.

What if you go away and realise that Toney was a better MW than what he was a SMW?

    Then what?

Are you going to come on here and withdraw him? At which point you’d want to see people’s rankings in a division that didn’t include both Roy and Toney?

    Come on man.

    Have a word with yourself.

This is a boxing forum where we come and relax and entertain ourselves.

You can rate a guy wherever you want to.

You can rate Roy at MW, SMW and LHW if you wanted to.

You could do it all at the same time if there were 3 separate threads.

Let me just give you some friendly advice:

Don’t come back and remove Toney. Because if you do, it will make an absolute mockery of your thread.

That list has zero credibility without Roy and Toney.

    It’s a joke.

Would you not rank Evander in an ATG CW thread, on the grounds that you rank him at HW?

He really does take everything so seriously, I mean he writes war and piece based on one caveat I placed in an opening post.

The actual thread is just debating whether or not Froch is a top ten MW.

You can’t expect anyone to give their honest opinion on a list of the best SMW’s of all time, which excludes Roy Jones and James Toney.

It’s you that’s taken things too seriously by placing unnecessary restrictions upon yourself.
