Luis Ortiz is a very good technical boxer. Problem is he has no stamina and his prime was decades ago. His best win is against Jennings but Jennings is no more than high level journeyman.
Ortiz is the one I feel for. Al wouldn’t let him in with AJ for £6mil because it would tarnish Wilders best win.
Actually, people bring up the "lost generation of heavyweights" on the classic forum to the point my head wants to explode. But Golden Boy Promotions had both Wilder and Ortiz in the early 2010s and whether it was because their owner was in the middle of a years-long cocaine and sex-perversion binge, and the rest of his management team (with Richard Schaefer) was trying to take the company from him before it collapsed, or whether the company just showed again it didn't know how to move heavyweights, Wilder and Ortiz's careers were a mess You can go back and watch Ortiz's fights with guys like Monte Barrett, and Ortiz was ready to fight anyone in the world. But Golden Boy, particularly back then, seemed incapable of moving any fighters who weren't Latino welterweights. It's like if Oscar, through his drug haze, couldn't move a boxer exactly the way he was moved, he didn't know what to do with them. Golden Boy has always been terrible at moving heavyweights. Never was it on display like it was when they had two of the best heavyweights of this decade under contract - in Wilder and Ortiz - and just left them to languish on undercards for years. And when Golden Boy did get Ortiz a shot, it was for a couple WBA 'regular' belts. Nothing major. Ortiz-Wlad in that era would've been a much better fight than Wlad-Leapai or Wlad-Jennings.
This. Ortiz screwed up big time by stepping aside and letting Joshua have a voluntary fight with Wlad back in 2017. Anybody with a brain could’ve seen that Hearn wasn’t going to keep his word and have Joshua fight him afterwards. That was the best opportunity Ortiz had at becoming a champion.
Exactly. Hearn basically signed him to keep him away from Joshua. Hearn did the same to Whyte. Whyte thought he was going to get a rematch with Joshua when he signed with him shortly after their first meeting. The only time in all these years he was ever offered a rematch was when they offered him the fight on short notice after Miller blew his test. And Hearn didn't exactly treat Whyte like a prized client in that moment.
AJ would crush Ortiz, because he is smart enough to see that the old man has no stamina so he would just wait for 3-4 rounds for him to get tired and then brutally stop him.
Just stop it, Nobody ducked Ortiz, nobody. Not AJ, Fury, Whyte, Wilder fought him twice, FFS even Dave Allen got in a ring with him. He is an old man living off one decent win against Jennings, other than that win he has done virtually nothing. The man is not that dangerous, Dave Allen was stopped on his feet and went 7 rounds with Ortiz and let's be honest.. Dave Allen is a walking punch bag. Fact is Ortiz is not "monster" some people pretend he is.
