That's just it. Fury wasn't always "in his prime." He barely got past John McDermott early on. He got floored by Pajkic and Cunningham. I think Fury struggles with Gary Mason early in his career. Four years into his career, Fury was fighting Steve Cunningham. What if he was fighting Frank Bruno at Wembley instead? And are were going to match Fury up against Lennox's opponents when Fury weighed 350 pounds and was not doing anything eight years into his career? Because, eight years in, Lewis was fighting Akinwande and Golota at that time. I think Henry Akinwande would've been a style nightmare for Fury. Especially if Fury weighs close to 400 pounds and is whining on Twitter about crashing his car during the lead up to the fight. Don't act like Fury was always at his best. Lewis didn't get to fight all his opponents when Lennox was PRIME. Fury doesn't either.
Great post. There’s an awful lot to think about. Unfortunately, he’s got mental health issues. Consistency would have been a huge issue. On his best night, he could have beaten all of Lennox’s opponents. But Lennox didn’t fight everyone on his best night.
Exactly. Fighters who win consistently year in and year out are really underrated on this forum. It's always "at his best." Nobody begins his career in his prime and ends it in his prime.
Is this some kind of ****ing joke? The best ever Lewis puts Wilder to the sword the same way he did for Rudduck, if not even quicker. Lewis is so much more skilled and an absolutely brutal finisher when he has his man hurt. In fact, Lewis would toy and embarrass Wilder.... FACT!
Pajkic knocked him down, so did Cunningham, wilder, wallin . Everybody land on fury , he’s not some kind of master technician as many believe he is.
Tyson might have been able to have beaten everyone on his best day. But not following the same timeline. I don’t know if Wilder would have beaten Lennox. Lennox could be caught, but I couldn’t really envisage Chisora catching him. Also, Chisora only possesses a small reach for a HW. McCall and Rahman had a significant reach advantage over Chisora.
Tua was only 5’10 with a 70” reach. And he didn’t have the speed or style of a guy like Mike Tyson, where he bobbed and weaved inside. Mike was also great at going to the body. Tua was a very good fighter, but over reliant on his left hook. Fury would probably have tied him up and kept him on the end of his long jab like Lewis did. It’s a bad stylistic match up for Tua.
I’m not saying Tua would KO Fury, I’m just saying he was a big puncher and he would land just as all fury’s opponents did.
The crap argument here is to say he would cruise through Lewis resume unscathed because he beat Wilder and wlad. Furys whole strategy is to not get hit at all when he does get hit he has problems Wilder nearly knocked out fury and wlad would still be a live dog if they fought again fury won that fight running. The guy is obviously not invunerable he came close to losing against wallin and was floored by a past prime cruiserweight.
I get that, but I don’t think he’d have been able to have landed a perfect power punch. For me, he couldn’t have landed his great left hook.
He fights to the level of his opponent and always has. How many times has he been the underdog? Off the top of my head - Chisora 1, Wilder 1 and Waldo. He didn't exactly struggle in any of them fights. He's a smart and adaptive fighter, definitely isn't easy to land on when he's focused.
