Just for the hell of it, here's Ali's list (according to Sugar and Atlas' Ultimate Book of Boxing Lists). He omits himself and doesn't give an order:

Jack Johnson: "Defensive fighter... scientific boxer... First black heavyweight champion."

Jack Dempsey: "Strong... Could take a punch... He hit hard... Good boxer."

Gene Tunney: "Great left jab... Accurated left jab and right cross... Straight punches... Good defensive fighter."

Joe Louis: "Knockout punching... Fast... Fought a lot."

    Ezzard Charles: "Scientific boxer... Fast."

Jersey Joe Walcott: "Movement... He would come in, then move out... Fast shuffle... He punched at the same time he was moving... Hard to hit... Good defensive fighter."

Rocky Marciano: "Rugged... Could take a punch and just keep coming... He beat up on opponents' arms so they could not hold them up to defend themselves."

Joe Frazier: "Joe Frazier hit hard... Brawler... Just kept coming, moving forward, no matter how hard you hit him... Could take a punch."

George Foreman: "Strong... Hard hitter... Knockout puncher... Good left hook and right cross... Dynamic."

Larry Holmes: Strong... Hard hitter... He beat me, didn't he?"

    Great list.
It’s a great list. I remember many years ago when I met both Ali and Foreman at a muscular distrophy benefit Foreman mentioning in a his speech how high he regarded Joe Louis.

Foreman credited Louis for polishing up his uppercut going into the first Frazier fight.

You can ask foreman the same question 10 times and you’ll get 10 different answers.

I agree. However, I remember growing up and seeing Ali, Louis, Dempsey, Johnson and Marciano in the Top 5 of almost every source I could find at the time. So I'm assuming Foreman's list is inspired by the lists he saw growing up.

    That's my only explanation.

Two things shocked me and one didn’t. Patterson and Sullivan instead of Liston shocked me. And no larry Holmes was what didn’t surprise me lol. Surprised Frazier didn’t make the cut they were friends I think and hyping him up would only help his legacy.

One of the worst lists I have seen.

    Marciano over Ali?....oh dear.
