    I think the order is the opposite here, Frazier fought Scrap Iron in ‘67 and I know was using him for sparring in 74 for Quarry and 75 for Ali. It’s my understanding that the fight with Scrap Iron was set up by Eddie Futch who went out to California and scouted him.

    Frazier always looked very good against styles like young's and larry's. Frazier broke Larry 2 ribs.
    And too much pressure for young.

    Young couldn't stand the pace from Frazier, sticking your head and torso out of the ring, as he did against Ali just gets him killed here.

    I also think it’s problematic for Jimmy because Joe would NOT be suckered into headhunting and more than content to go to the body.

    I have often thought this would be a great fight. Given how Ali struggled with Frazier, and Young and Ali being similar, and that Norton was Young's toughest opponent in his peak, I say Joe by SD. I actually have this being a closer fight for Joe than the FOTC. Brutal fight with no end in see-saws.

    Frazier. Unlike Foreman and Ali, who just ineffectually followed him around the ring, Frazier would step with him and pin him on the ropes.

    However, comments about Frazier destroying him are wide of the mark. Barring a KO loss to Shavers very early in his career, Young fought some of the best heavies of the 70s and 80s and none of them ever destroyed him.

    totally agreed. Young was a very tough guy. I really think the easiest way to draw conclusions on this potential fight is Young's fight with Norton, given the similarities between Norton and Frazier.

    Joe got to Ali, so he'd get to Young eventually. Though Young did survive Foreman (granted, I'm not sure George ever really did land completely flush on him), Joe had faster hands and wasn't suffering under Ali-PTSD like Foreman was when he fought Jimmy.

    So yeah, 10 rounds at the latest for Jimmy, Joe's body attack was relentless, and he would almost certainly land completely flush after a certain time. I definitely don't consider even prime Jimmy Young to be as good as FOTC Ali....no.
