1977 Jimmy Young vs 1971 Joe Frazier

I think it would be much less of a struggle for 1971 Joe Frazier . Keep in mind that the Norton fight was in 1977 after the third fight with Ali . Norton has admitted that after the last Ali fight that he had really lost his passion for the sport. Norton’s record after the Young flight was 2-3-1. Two of the three losses were by knockout, his two victories were against opponents had a combined 28 wins, and he drew against Scott LeDoux. I don’t think anyone is going to confuse this version of Ken Norton with Joe Frazier at his absolute peak.
Also keep in mind that much of the success enjoyed by Norton against Young was from going to the body.Even peak Norton was no Joe Frazier going to the body.

 

Joe Frazier by decision. He was indefatiguable.

 

I knew Jerry Quarry was in trouble the minute he signed for Frazier, Feb 1974 Ali was going to sign on the dotted line ALI-QUARRY III . ALI WAS IN THE NY TROPICANA HOTEL, WHILE Quarry was in the lobby, Don King talked Ali out of it citing the Foremna fite backers would pull out. While the MSG brass backed a fite with Quarry

Frazier was hitting so hard he sent Jimmy Young and 'Scrap Iron' TO THE HOSPITAL, FROM SPARRING SESSIONS May 29, 1974.
My Uncle told me Quarry is gonna get his shot, Playing Baseball, i belined home to catch the news , He mistaked Foreman-Quarry for Frazier-Quarry, I knew The Jerry needed a bout with "SMOKIN" Joe like an eskimo needs ice.

It is somewhat believable. I heard George Chuvalo knocked out a sparring partner's front teeth once.

I dont care what you birds believe your on boxing 24 are you not, it was right there in the Philadelphia newspapers, what they play dominoes in sparring sessions, theyre were more brutal than the fights, especially at Joe Frazier's gym. AS FAR AS THE AMBULANCE GOES, "THEY WERE LIFE FLIGHTED OKAY - MORE BELIEVEABLE NOW?

Actually frazier never sparred with anybody, his gym was for people to lose weight and jumping jacks, Joe did not believe in hurting another human being in sparring. he was passive

 

How's Jimmy Young going to beat Frazier, when he was repeatedly beat down in sparring, Jimmy at his best, Joe at his best, JOE FRAZIER.

 

I know, Joe was a song and dance man! LOL

 

I can attest to that. Joe said in his book that sparring sessions should never even contain a knockdown.

 

THATS RIGHT, JOE NEVER SPARRED. HE NEVER WANTED TO HURT ANYBODY, AND THATS THE ONLY REASON HE LET FOREMAN KNOCK HIM DOWN 8 TIMES. HE LIKED GEORGE TO MUCH

aw shucks when he took over Duane Bobick's contract , He'd heard that Duane was sparring in Denver under contract of buisnessman Bill Daniels,

Frazier & Futch, first things first no more sparring for Duane
and this actually helped Norton, Knoetze, Tate in their bouts with Bobick.

Norton was great at coming forward and getting through with excellent punches, but Frazier was a steamroller only comparable to prime Iron Mike. You might watch the fights Robert recommended, Frazier just chopped guys down. Norton was more a foil to boxers, he never knocked down Ali. Frazier knocked the living yee-haw out of Ali in that first fight, knocked him silly and down. And just check out the Thrilla. Norton (despite breaking his jaw) never brought out what Frazier brought out in Ali.

I'm a crazy person though...I personally feel NO heavyweight could have beaten the Frazier of the FOTC, not Foreman, Lewis, no one. I've never seen that massively mean, ugly. ultra-determined look in ANY other heavyweight's eyes. Frazier was the Greatest...but just that one night imo. And he used himself up a lot in that fight, never fought as good after.

Just my opinion.

 

2nd Quarry showed off Joe's RIGHT hand, which turned out to be about Norton-level in terms of power (which means, no joke).
