Another great fighter suffering from pugilistic dementia

Damn.

 

I felt I owed it to him to read it through, but I wish I hadn't.

Chavez was my favorite by I always like Frankie. Every fighter loses, and Frankie just came out of nowhere to get it done.

 

I knew Frankie was in a nursing home. He helped us at our gym for awhile and he worked a minimum wage job in a cake decorating factory during the day. Frankie always said that he never regretted anything, he said that he always planned on working when he finished boxing. He said that Don King always treated him right. Frankie was just a good guy who never complained. He was generous to the point of giving away money even when he didn't have enough to survive. On Friday, most of his check (he didn't make much money) would be gone as neighbors came to him for money. Expect he had a lot of "friends" when he was making big money...

 

That's really sad.

At least he did what he loved and didn't have any regrets, I guess.

 

My prayers are with the Randall family... Sad to see such a warrior go down like this but we all go and his grace, I suppose, is that he did what he loved and lived by his own rule as long as he did.

good boxer nice guy it seems, always came across as a very nice guy to me the little I saw of him in interviews. I was just looking at his record on boxrec. Very odd record. Fought a bunch of guys with really bad records for quite awhile, then later on some more. But when he stepped up to the guys on top he usually rose to the occasion. It was awesome when he beat Chavez. Sad to see hi is having problems, though many people do even not boxers. It sad to see though, you remember these guys through the years, how great they were in the ring, I mean that's how you still think of them. Then you see this and it hurts.

 

Never forget what a dangerous profession professional boxing is.

A real bummer as Randall has always seemed like a great bloke.

That is sincerely sad news.
Stands out in my mind, watching the first Chavez fight on BBC.
Jeez, was that an upset, and Frankie put on a great boxing display.
Was robbed in the rematch, no surprise there.
But very sad to hear.

In the context of not seeing the upset, yes Randall came out of nowhere. But for years prior he was a respected pro.

I remember back in 1985, having breakfast and hearing my Dad wax lyrical about what he had seen the night before at the York Hall (UK's most famous boxing hall/club).


He had gone to see Mark Kaylor, a then Middleweight prospect, but what everyone there was talking about was this brilliant fight between this American and Puerto Rican.


Randomly on a Sunday evening in East London UK, at a fighting club merely as the main support, an unbeaten Frankie Randall dropped a razor close decision to a 26-1 Edwin Rosario...

 

First man to officially beat Chavez, a memory carved in steel. And he accomplished much more than that.
