1977 Jimmy Young vs 1971 Joe Frazier

Holmes is my 5th favorite fighter of all time but I think Frazier stops him late (possibly in the championship rounds).

Jimmy Ellis was slick and a much better puncher than Young, what happend to him? Not only relentless Smokin Joe was not slow, not in 1971 anyway. Young like many fighter's would not be able to keep Joe off him. Even Ali's constant holding did not thwart Joe's attack that time.

Ellis had beat 5 ranked heavyweights in a row, in a short amount of time and knocked out 2. Young did not beat 5 ranked heavyweights in his entire career!

good thing Frazier never attended the Liston-Foreman-Williams-Foster sparring matches. Supposedly they fought brutal matches that were more exciting than most pro fights. Evidently filled with lots of knockdowns and stuff.

 

Well, he beat Foreman, and Young twice, he beat many not-so-great but decent fighters like Jose Luis Garcia and so on, and even though it's not on the record, anyone who says Ali beat Young can't see. And even though the Shavers draw and Norton fight are debatable, I won't pull those into the argument.

 

Nope .. Frazier grinds him down ..

 

It's not just your opinion, it's the opinion of millions of well-informed, intelligent fans. There was no one as great of a pressure fighter as Joe (Duran and Briscoe would be on the same plane as Joe, but not necessarily better), but Kenny was still one of the best pressure fighters of all time. I do agree that FOTC Joe was indestructible. The only thing that would have been more impressive is for him to force out that kind of win over an angry, relentless prime George Foreman.

I saw Marvis and Smokin Bert working and it was no sparring session they were going at it

 

I honestly think Joe would have chopped George down that night. Joe had just had ENOUGH of the condescension and thinly veiled insults from Ali. He was out to win or die. George would have been stopped in 10.

Robert i just read the clipping again , May 29, 1974, Smokin Joe decked Jimmy Young with a left hook, he sent both him and Scrap to the hospital, and these guys where wearing headgears. (You can attest to Joe Frazier's gym)

Anybody doubting my word talking boxing, (Frazier's sparring special wonderland)-
just for say nostalgia sake okay, ought to go out and spend $75 during these trying times for a year suscription to "Newspapper Archives" Thats how fighter's get Punchy people , Wars and workouts in the gym.
(sparring partner's on a daily basis-is what they did for a living).

I dont doubt it. Frazier was like Dempsey in he gave no quarter when he was inside the ropes
