Interesting, I think the idea would be that Oscar by being younger and closer to his prime makes him the easy favorite here. However after 140 Oscar went up to 147 and was completely befuddled by a past prime Whitaker. Maybe Oscar was still learning to deal with a counter puncher and defensive fighter at the time he was a 140lber . People say well Floyd doesnt have the power to deal with prime Oscar, Whitaker didnt either. Oscar had a pretty good size advantage on Floyd with Floyd moving up and being well below the weight class on the scales coming in at 148 or 149. Both at 140 Oscar would lose some of the size advantage though Oscar probably balloons more overnight at 140 than Floyd but they would have a similar starting position. I would probably still lean toward Oscar but I don't necessarily think its an easy fight or that their actual fight has total bearing on this hypothetical
Not if he’d have made weight safely. Get real. He weighed in at 156 against Oscar. Floyd wouldn’t have beaten that same 2004 version of Bernard. (minus 2 pounds)
size has to factor in somewhere. Size isnt also my determining factor . If anything I mentioned in my post that Oscar had a good size advantage vs Floyd in their real fight that he wouldnt enjoy in the hypothetical I guess my marks against Oscar are the following: -Never fully developed his right hand -Fought tense -Because of the tenseness he had a tough time going 12 rounds consistently -Not the best at making adjustments always seemed like a front runner
Pretty stupid question because a guy that massive trying to make Welterweight would literally kill him. The context of your question is in poor taste especially as Cooper is deceased.
Who cares if he makes weight safely in this context. The point is if they are the same size by him coming to Junior Middleweight or Welterweight Floyd beats him. Maurice Blocker was a big welterweight at 6ft does that mean he beats Floyd or Paul Williams for that matter.
Y'know HW is an open weight, right? Bert doesn't have to make 147, since he's a HW. Floyd can be 147, and still fight him. You said skills make fights, not size, well? Doesn't Floyd beat Bert? He is much more skilled, after all. And no, it's not in poor taste. Cooper is one of my all-time favourite HWs. I love the guy.
I have said it before and I will say it again if you want to beat Floyd who was unbeaten in his actual career 50-0 in hypothetical match ups then do it respectfully by matching him with true all time greats not Golden Girl Oscar De La Hoya. Mention the likes of Duran, SRR, Hearns, SRL etc not a degenerate.
This whole post was about Floyd and Oscar fighting at 140 pounds. However because the facts and evidence including their real fight shows Floyd wins some of you come up with ludicrous things trying to match him up against guys he cannot face because of different weights. If my Aunty had ball she would become my Uncle. If you could transform Cooper into a welterweight can he beat Floyd?
The only way Floyd could have beaten Hopkins at JMW, is if Hopkins had been dead on the scales and unhealthy. Again, if Floyd had fought the version who Oscar fought (minus 2 pounds) he wouldn’t have beaten him. You are completely incapable of having an objective debate. Floyd Mayweather was not ‘Superman’ He wouldn’t have beaten Bernard Hopkins. We’re not talking about WW. Stop talking about WW you fool. It’s not just the size. It’s Bernard’s skills, strength and power, as well as the size. The whole package. Floyd wouldn’t have beaten a big, ATG MW. You are living in an a fantasy.
Maybe he does maybe he does not but they never fought before Williams accident. In your mind everyone beat Floyd until they fight him then we see what happens. Also if he is dead on the scales serves him right.
You are the fool. Floyd skills are superior to Bernard Hopkins he is a much better if they are the same size at Welterweight Floyd kicks his arse.
