What happened to the seek and destroy American fighter?

soviet russia won most olympic medals in the years: 56, 64, 68, (80) and more then the us on 2 other olympics. Then the 90 came around and amateur boxing basically became a ex Soviet Union championship. Even small country's like Eastern Germany or Cuba were on pair with the US in many Olympics.

 

They've done it, small weights, middleweights light heavys cruisers and heavys, all have been dominated for years by them mate

I didn’t argue against this. You claimed the likes of Ray Leonard, Holyfield, Fraizer and Foreman were never that good, that they wouldn’t have been greats had the latinos, cubans and ee were allowed to turn pro so I pointed out that they won gold medals in the Olympics where every country were allowed to compete, which they did.

yeah but olympic amateur boxing isnt the pro game perse and if you look at their Goldmedals you will see that there is a soviet boxer very close by to the gold medal. Pro Boxing would have simply looked like today with fighters coming from all over the planet and the usa playing a strong role without being the major dominater. But a lot of the so called greats wouldnt be greats by any standart because they would simply been top 50 material instead of top 10 or top 5.
Think of todays lhw division without Beterbiev, gvozdyk. Bivol and kovalev, we would talk about the punching power of joe smith junior or the speed and accuracy of marcus brown instead of the 4 above.

 

Boxing is far more global now than ever, boxing is better for it too.
Eastern Europe has given us great boxers, ‘seek & destroy’ is still in America. It’s just gone world wide, so is just more diluted.

In fairness, LHW, MW, CW and HW has been very EE heavy for the last decade or so. America's had complete control of 147 for as long as I've been alive though.

 

Thats what i meant. By what he said recently a decade isnt all that far back . somali making it sound like this has been going on in the pros the majority in boxing history
