    I was at Tyson-Spinks.

The main event was short, of course, but I’ve never seen that amount of ferocity and brutality live before or since.

It was a great trip — we saw cards headlined by Hector Camacho, George Foreman and Azumah Nelson (defending vs. Lupe Suarez) in the leadup.

And on the undercard there was a guy named Buster Douglas (I remember noting he had the best jab I’d see since Holmes or Pinklon but didn’t think of him as a future Tyson conquerer, obviously), Trevor Berbick-Truth Williams plus Razor Ruddock. Also chatted with Angelo Dundee for a bit that weekend. Great experience.

Atlantic City must have been a fun place in the late 80s

Only time I’ve been there. That week the casinos were hopping but basically a block away in any Director was abject poverty.

The Foreman and Camacho fights were one-sided. “Special edition of Tuesday Night Fights” (not on Tuesday) on USA iirc.

Azumah fight was somewhat competitive — Saurez was a legit contender but outclassed by The Professor. Still got to see a great in Nelson at pretty much top form.

Mike Williams, whose only loss was a split decision to Tim Witherspoon with a W over Quick Tillis.

    Bus stopped him in seven.

Absolutley not, he would be ko'd early against Spinks, he doesn't really have much boxing skill especially not compared to Spinks

I remember watching the Foreman & Camacho fights on USA Tuesday night fights. Aired on consecutive nights I think. Such an exciting time! Camacho got dropped by his opponent (Reyes Cruz?). Foreman almost got dropped against Carlos Hernandez. He really got rocked to start the fight.

The only way I had to follow the fight was by calling this hotline at $.99 a minute. I was in my teen so not that smart! I called once and the fighters were coming to the ring. I waited a few minutes and “Tyson vs Spinks, Once & for All is now history!” I always laugh at that. Saved money at least!
