Is anyone else just getting the code and not the image? It's a cool pic of Jack Johnson and Joe Louis. Thanks mcvey!

Louis doesn't look particularly thrilled to be in Little Arthur's company! Not surprising.

Why should Louis be thrilled to be in Johnson's company? Johnson blasted him in the press, and did not want Louis to beat Schmeling just so he could be the only African American champion is history. The two men had opposite values in many ways.

The handlers of course looking after Louis had got him to present a public persona that was the antithesis of Johnson, so photo opportuniy was likely not positively wanted by him or his team.

Absolutely. Johnson didn't help Louis out much in his first fight with Schmeling. He wrote an article in the July 1936 edition of Ring Magazine in which he pointed out some things he believed to be flaws in Louis' style. The article hit the newsstand a couple weeks prior to the fight. Max wrote in the September issue that Johnson's comments were of great help when he was preparing for the fight. So, there was no love lost between Jack and Joe!
