What were marvis frazier's biggest weaknesses and reason why he wasn't a good in the pro's

Undersized, bad chin, trying to fight in a style not suited to his lack of size and lack of power.

 

The stubborness Joe Frazier put on display chasing Ali all over the ring wasn't an asset as a manager. Quite the opposite. He almost got his son killed. Larry Holmes was merciful because he was a good man and Eddie Futch lectured him the morning of the fight. Futch saw Marvis at the weigh in. He was tight. He told Holmes in no uncertain terms " Larry I've known this young man since he was 8 years old. He's like a son to me. I don't want this kid HURT". Larry Holmes did exactly as Futch hoped, he took him out . No long beating.

 

Holmes was signaling the ref to come stop the fight when he had Marvis in the corner.

 

Yes he was a good man. He did the same for Ali

 

I am not sure. He was outclassed by Holmes and Tyson. the two best he fought.

 

Should have been a Cruiserweight not really suited for a heavyweight.

Though he was a loving father...Joe Fraziers recklessness and lack of savvy was mostly responsible....Joe was in a rush to have a Frazier ruling the HW"s .....consequently Marvis was rushed...perhaps through Joe's cheerleading a sense of cockiness even entered the gentlemanly unfailingly polite Marvis"s persona....certainly the way he fought Holmes with his hands down jiving in front of him was not smart....Joe was a spartan he wanted to fight only the best....but by Marvis"s time things had changed....there were 2 champions....than after 1984 ....3 champions....with his skills,abilitiee and resume after the Holmes fiasco...Marvis should have been steered to a WBA WBC title...cmon he beats Berbick..or Coetzee or Page........but instead after a layoff Joe foolishly puts him in with Tyson.....total mismanagement.....you know if Marvis had continued in 1988/89....Joe is putting him straight in with George Foreman!

 

Marvis Frazier vs. George Foreman, circa 1989... there's an interesting bout. I wonder, with all the laughing about Foreman's comeback, if Marvis would've been favored going in? Joe was favored prior to both of the Foreman fights, crazily enough.

Holmes really showed his heart in the locker room after the Ali
massacre. He wasn't happy as most fighters are minutes
after winning a big fight. In the locker room he cried.
A heart felt response to being put in a situation he
didn't want to be in. Showed his class and sincerity.

 

The laughing was really something confined to the east coast boxing nedia cabal...early comeback Foreman was going through world rated cruisers in a hurry...bert cooper.....dwight qawi...Everett big foot martin.....Marvis could conceivably have done something if he got in rhythm but i see a 2 round knockout

In a Psychological sense, too many expectations were put upon him as the second coming of Joe Frazier. In a physical sense, he did not possess the ability of his legendary father, nor the skills.

 

MF was hard to root against. He fought hard in every fight. To put it simply..... he had no outstanding qualities that would make him rise above the elite fighters. With the exception of a great work ethic- Marvis lacked a superior jab, power, chin, defensive skills. He certainly was/ is a first class person. I agree with many opinions, Joe tried to mold him into what he was. I may be out of line for saying this but-----I bet many on this thread felt sorry for him during the Tyson and Holmes fights.

 

He came along and faced the two best Heavyweight s in absolute years. Larry Holmes and Tyson. Poor guy never stood a chance.
