As much as I like the Big Cat, and I think he would overwhelm Rocky for at least a good five rounds, his fate would ultimately be similar to that in his fights with Liston. WAR
Clevland Williams is largely a myth, created because Liston gave him some props. One of these fighters was undefeated, with wins over greats Louis, Walcott, Charles, and Moore, was well as leading contenders like Layne, LaStarza, Mathews, Savold, and Cockell. The other had 13 losses, a draw with Eddie Machon, and 80 wins over mostly nobodies with a notable win over Ernie Terrell. Rocky would utterly destroy Williams, who was even knocked out by Bob Satterfield.
People rate Williams so highly because if Rocky smashes Williams easily then that means he at least has a bigger chance against Liston than they previously thought. In their minds their argument against Rocky beating Liston loses a bit of traction. Imo Marciano smashes Williams something awful just like Liston did. Nothing controversial about that. It’s only logical.
lol You just bumped a ten year old thread cause I kicked the dog **** out of you and exposed your blatant lies in the Marciano-Bruno thread. Pretty pathetic.
So let me get this straight, Rocky is just going to walk straight into one of the biggest and hardest punchers of all times (common opponents rated him above Liston himself) I love the Rock but let's be honest here, he wasn't hard to hit (despite what revisionists say) and he'd be giving up 4-6 inches in height and 20 plus pounds. Call me crazy but no way I'm betting on Rocky, he simply doesn't have the tools.
Williams beat mostly people with crap records. You & I both know that if they fought tomorrow, you would bet on Marciano to poleaxe him. You're the pathetic one grasping to straws.
Sonny Liston:......"Williams hit very hard and he was quick" "He hit as hard as I could." https://books.google.com/books?id=9...hUKEwjz2eGWs7XpAhWIg-AKHZlGCKgQ6AEwAHoECAoQAQ "two of william's losses came at the hands of Liston, who has said williams was the hardest puncher he has ever met." https://www.newspapers.com/clip/51090697/sioux-city-journal/ George Foreman: Names Cleveland Williams as one of the THREE hardest punchers he ever faced or sparred with. Above respected punchers such as Sonny Liston, and Joe Frazier. Source: This content is protected Roy Harris calls Cleveland Williams his most dangerous and toughest opponent was "when I sparred with Cleveland Williams." http://www.doghouseboxing.com/Ken/Hissner030911.htm Ernie Terrell His toughest opponent: Cleveland Williams https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=-pleAAAAIBAJ&sjid=vVINAAAAIBAJ&pg=4798,539251&dq=&hl=en :"He was the strongest fighter I ever fought" http://www.thesweetscience.com/news/articles/6048-ernie-terrell-chicagos-heavyweight-champion "His left hook is poison." https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=Sy8_AAAAIBAJ&sjid=9lAMAAAAIBAJ&pg=3337,4585601&dq=&hl=en Bob Satterfield: "Satterfield was very impressed with Williams and rated him as a potential champion. "he's the first guy to hurt me with a left jab. "and the kid can hit. if he had ever nailed me he probably would have knocked me four rows back." https://www.newspapers.com/clip/510...msTGHDA4kkoOhgjXxbKfW6Ja0z5E6sKHcgwvV_TdLXYZc Muhammad Ali also spoke highly of Cleveland Williams despite only being hit by him a number of times. But Williams power was just a myth. Riiiiiight. Why don't you go tell all these men who tasted his power what they got wrong.
Well then Terrell, Machen, Ali, and Chuvalo all gave him props as well. And to say that Liston and the four of them were all just being nice (all five? unlikely) is absurd. Cleveland Williams is not a myth. He is just underrated in some camps and overrated in others.
I never said he did. I was just defending Williams against another skeptic. I will always take up the defense of the great dead fighter from Texas, since 6/ 10 people have nothing but disdain for him.
You're the one butthurt somebody had a different opinion to you, was on the losing end of an argument, resorted to blatant lying to try to gain an upperhand, got called on it and exposed and now ran away to bump a ten year old thread (the most truly pathetic part was acting like your intention was to joke with Mcvey. Truly laughable) to try to gain some support. You're a clown.
As did Foreman (who rated his power in the top 3 above fighters like Frazier and Liston himself), Liston, and Satterfield. But I'm sure these men didn't know what they were talking about.
