Julian Jackson landed only one punch against him (more Graham's fault), after being stood on his head, in the 1990s up at middleweight.

Trinidad is a far better 154 guy than De La Hoya. Tito beat a prime Vargas whereas De la Hoya beat a shot Vargas, Castielljo who wasn’t anywhere near as good as Reid and lost to Mosley. Look at their results and performances. Mosley was average at 154.

    It's the performance I've gone.

How did you score Oscar's rematch with Mosley?

Also your assessment of Vargas is way off.

At the time people said Vargas was green for Tito and the fight with Oscar was seen as 50/50

Very few people felt Vargas wasn’t ready. Many picked him. It was a legit super fight between two pound for pound players coming off great performances.

Vargas looked awful in the two fights after Tito and was believed to be shot by many. De La Hoya said he’d never fight Vargas then he got a look at how he looked after Tito and pulled the trigger. While the odds were similar for both fights the reasons were different. Tito vs. 2002 Vargas would have been billed a massacre whereas 2000 Vargas vs. De La Hoya wouldn’t happen and if it did then it would actually have been roughly 50/50.

I felt De La Hoya-Mosley II was close maybe a draw maybe Oscar by a couple of points. It was a dreadful performance by both. Mosley looked awful and Oscar faded and let it be close against a guy who was far below par.

The problem is Hoya had already beaten Tito, he then beat Vargas and Mosley. He also beat Mayorga. Plus as I said Tito beat a green Vargas.

There's an argument for Tito being above Oscar, but I don't agree atm.

People may have said that after the fight. Going in it was an even matchup. Vargas on top of his game after beating Quartey.
Tito cracked Vargas chin and took his swagger. Going into the DelaHoya bout Fernando took steroids to try to build his confidence up. Vargas was never a speed demon but he was as slow as molasses vs Oscar.
DelaHoya had a habit of fighting Trinidad's leftovers.

Well Vargas was never down before he faced Trinidad and after he was knocked down by Riveria and was believe to be if not shot certainly damaged.
His decision to take Steroids reeked of desperation.

So your saying Vargas was “green” in 2000 coming off wins over the more experienced Wright, Quartey (who’d beaten De La Hoya off of a 18 month layoff) and Thompson but then was “prime” after being pulverized by Tito which resulted in his dropped by featherfisted smaller Rivera and looking like crap against the other guy he fought?

    It doesn’t add up.

He had only been boxing 3 years had inky had 20 fights and was only 22 going into the Tito fight. He was as green as it gets.

I don't actually think Vargas had a prime tbh, I think he skipped it completely.

It's just that he was hard enough hitting to beat most people he could hit.

But the idea of someone being shot after a ko victory is a very modern thing.

Knockouts in the early 20s never mean anyone is shot.
