How does an older, slowing Joe Louis from the Ezzard Charles fight perform against the tricky Spinks? Does he do enough to win, or does Spinks befuddle and outbox him?

Spinks would’ve been tough for Louis even in his prime, so he’d definitely be all wrong for an older Louis.

I think I agree, Louis lacked speed at this point and he could be outboxed. Far from given of course, but Spinks was good enough to win decision here. Similar fight to first Holmes one.

And Spinks had longer arms than Charles, he wouldn't have to fight on the inside here like Ezz did.

That's true it gives him another dimension. I have to say though that Louis was still extrwmely good in 1950 and you need to be prepared for very tough fight to beat him. Charles won the fight comfortably, but it's not like Louis was hopeless against him. I don't think anyone else (outside of Walcott maybe) could beat that version of Louis in that time.

Holmes was a sitting target in `85, Louis showed better head movement and Charles was far better than Spinks.

He couldn`t fight inside like Charles did.

I think Walcott would've done it, Louis wasn't exactly any better in 50 than he was a few years earlier. And 14 months off didn't help. Actually, I think Archie Moore could've done it. Archie would've stuck to him like glue, and known to circle to the left, as to nullify Louis' jab and hook, since that's basically all what was left of his offence at that time.

Yeah, Spinks' dimensions here give him a nice little game-plan here, and I think he had the better jab than Louis anyway. If Spinks treats it how he did Qawi, and boxes on the back-foot, rather than try to search and destroy I think his superior foot-speed let's him win.

Yeah I forgot about Moore, he could have done that too. He was smart enough to see old Louis deteriorations and use it to his advantages.

Spinks would land a lot of 1-2`s like in the Holmes fight but Louis`s right hand was still sharp.

Moore was such a complete fighter, one of the all-time best. I'd have him top 10 for ability AND greatness.

No, no it wasn't. It's actually known for not being sharp by this point.

I'd say that it was still dangerous but definitely not sharp.
