Is Chris Byrd the GOAT?

Sorry I missed this thread Byrd maybe the most undervalued man in boxing--a super middle who beat Vitali, Holyfield, and Tua. I would give Byrd a shot against ANYBODY on the right night.

 

I admit I haven’t seen many of Byrd’s fights but I do find it hard to imagine him as a great fightr let alone a atg when my main memory of him is him been knocked senseless by Ibeabuchi and getting up with drool dripping from his mouth and shouting some thing incoherent at the ref.

 

Byrd is one of my favorite fighters ever! Everyone hated him because he couldn’t knock out heavies. But man I always loved defensive fighters. And he’s proof positive (along w Jones n Evander) that past fighters could not only move up in weight and compete but could win.

 

GOAT !!! Like his awesome one punch ko power .

 

I think Byrd is overrated in this forum

No but Tua still beats a much smaller weaker puncher

 

So why didn't he beat Byrd?

 

1. Byrd isn't a puncher, he's a defensive technician. Get in a slugfest with Tua and you're getting carried out on a stretcher. Even Lennox knew better than to exchange too much with him.

2. Tua was more out of shape than when he was more active.

 

Ike Ibeabuchi is the GOAT. He beat Byrd and Tua. Retired undefeated. Nuff said.

 

Tua was easier to wrong-foot than Ibeabuchi, perhaps? (Just guessing)

 

Oh right, you mean as a style when you said 'puncher', I thought you meant fighters who didn't hit as hard as him. My bad.

Ike Ibeabuci didn't seem to mind a punch up with Tua, although I thought Ike lost. It'd have been interesting to see if Bowe or Holyfield could've beaten Tua in a war, I think they would've.

Can't see this. Tua was fighting like 3/4 times a year, and was weighing around 230, that's only 5lbs or so above what he was for his best performance IMO (Ike Ibeabuci fight).
