OK so I rank mainly on H2H, although that doesn't strictly mean the eye test, resume has to be considered so we know the level at which a fighter is performing. I only include fighters I've watched fight, and I tend not to include active fighters as their placing is too dynamic. So here's my WW list 1 Sugar Ray Robisnon 2 Ray Leonard 3 Tommy Hearns 4 Roberto Duran 5 Henry Armstrong 6 Jose Napoles 7 Kid Gavilan 8 Emile Griffith 9 Barney Ross 10 Floyd Mayweather HM: LMR, Holman Williams, Pacquaio, Mosley, De La Hoya Are there any people you feel should be in that aren't? Any orders that need changing?
I'd have Barbados Joe Walcott and Mickey Walker both top three or four, and Jack Britton and Jimmy McLarnin top five or six
Although 'H2H' makes it a little different I guess. Over 12 rounds, on film, Hearns is undisputed #1 and Curry is right up there.
Maybe Burley but he was a touch over 147 for a lot of his wins around welter and there's very little footage.
I know I've seen it. But in terms of H2H, I can't justify Hearns above Leonard, given Leonard did better at the weight class and beat Hearns.
Fantastic list, with exception of Mayweather Jr. His exploits at welter are more smoke and mirrors than substance if one looks deeply at the fighters he fought and most importantly when he fought them.... I'd place Curry in his position ....
It's not so much his exploits at welter, as his career as a whole and how I think he'd do against great welterweight of the past. For my money he does better against the majority and wins far more than he loses.
Duran goes 1-1 against Ray at WW and he is a top of Napoles? Am I missing something? crazy ... a top of hank as well?
Duran is one of the best fighters of all time. Period. The best verison of Duran at WW is better than the bets version of Napoles and Armstrong for my money. Neither had a size advantage over him, neither have a style advantage over him. Both were more consistent at the weight, but on their best days neither were better, imho.
You are using 1 fight and 1 fight only... It is crazy. Look at the loss as well. Duran had a brief stop at WW. The others made a career at the weight.
