Which is better, 50-0 or 89-0?

And Chavez LITERALLY did not win 89 in a row. He lost via DQ earlier in his eighth pro fight. As he became more popular, it was changed YEARS later to a KO 1 win.

50-0 sounds better than 7-0. (LOL)

89-0 was a completely bogus record.

Firstly he was DQ'd in his 12th fight and some skulduggery saw the result overturned. Then there's the fact that you could easily find 50 or 60 wins that meant absolutely nothing within this record. I say this and I'm a big fan of JCC the fighter. He was great but his resume is full of absolute fodder interspersed with just enough high quality wins to make him the ATG we all know him to be.

 

I think they are both the best fighters of their eras. Hard to compare eras because boxers didn't get the pay days like Mayweather's era. In today's era it is easier to win a watered down title, pick and choose opponents, wait out opponents to get old, pay much more tied to popularity versus winning. Chavez didn't have many amateur fights so it makes sense that he initially padded his record, and he was really poor (grew up on a stow away on a train), so of course he had to keep fighting to make money.

That said, the records that matter:
Chavez
Has a record of 31-4-2 (21 KOs) in world title fights. Most championship victories and tied for most KOs in world title fights.
Has a record of 18-4-2 (10 KOs) against former world titlists.
Has a record of 2-3-1 (1 KO) against International Boxing Hall of Fame inductees.

Mayweather
Has a record of 26-0 (10 KO) in world title fights.
Has a record of 24-0 (7 KO) against former or current world titlists
Has a record of 4-0 (1 KO) against International Boxing Hall of Fame inductees.

I think Chavez climbed the higher mountain, Mayweather flew closer to the sun.

 

A funny thing that happened to Mayweather's opponents is that they often went on to have great accomplishments after Mayweather beat (and usually outclassed) them:
1. Pacquaio beat Bradley and Thurman.
2. Corrales became a strong 135 champ and won what may have been the best fight in history.
3. Cotto-->lineal 160
4. Marquez--> knocked out Manny for the 147 title
5. JLC regained the 135 title and scored his biggest wins.
6. Canelo-->ATG champ, unified 154, lineal 160, belt holder at 175

 

Exactly! Floyd's first 50 fights had more champs, ex champs and future champs than Chavez's first 89.

 

Which goes to show how great Floyd is in that he improves these guys like Canelo after outclassing. I am sure you did not mean it as a compliment but that how it’s come out as.

 

Chavez beat about 50 Mexican binmen before he'd even got going.

 

Floyd's 50-0 didn't have about 60 Mexican road sweepers on his resume

Jcc is an atg and does have some great wins, but imo Floyd edges him

Would Floyd have had any problems with JCC’s 89 fighters he fought versus JCC having problems with Floyd’s 50?

Floyd easily had the better resume up to that point and just overall including the rest of chavezs record.

 

LOL, you're looking at Boxrec. which has tons of fighters listed with incomplete records.
Boxrec. doesn't show the complete records of lesser known fighters who fought in Latin America and other countries.

Go look up some of the fighters Roberto Duran fought before he became champion. I think Boxrec. lists some of Duran's opponents as being winless, but that just wasn't the case, they just don't have a complete record of that fighter.
