Which boxers did not deserve their fame or following because they only had average ability? I think Vinny Paz was very average.

Surely Tommy "the Duke" Morrison has to be included in this list?

Gatti and Ricky Hatton. A good case for Benn and Eubank too.

Who was the dude from Argentina that came up with Duran comparisons? It was around the late 90s. He fought Casamayor and got exposed as nothing special. He did manage to win belt.

    Tony Sibson.
Probably never world level. British, European, Commonwealth champ.
Had huge support wherever he fought,
Although he was above average really.

With an understanding of what the word 'average' means, not one average boxer has even been mentioned on this thread so far. If you want to say average for a name boxer, that's one thing. For all the boxers that compete...these are all people clearly above average. And gosh, if you pick somebody like Gatti and you say he wasn't as skilled as his popularity might indicate, okay, certainly, if you equate popularity with skill, but Gatti had clearly above average skill, and grew up boxing, and turned pro for a reason. He was a good athlete, but he also had an elite level of determination and far above average power per best punch than a typical fighter at the weights in which he fought. Even, as mentioned, a Sibson, was really above average, across the board of participating boxers, most of whom are known mostly to their mothers.
