Bowe, who blew it in Holyfield 2 Facing Merciless Mercer, who almost gave Lewis his second defeat?? 12 round s - who do you like?
Mercer was the hard-luck fighter of the era. I would give the fight to Bowe by the slightest of margins, but could honestly see Mercer winning the fight only to the lose the decision.
Was he past his best tho? I used specifically the Mercer that gave Lewis an extremely hard fight. Remember the younger Mercer lost to Larry Holmes..
Prime Bowe but isn't without some respectable Mercer moment. Mercer's performance looks good against Lennox because Lewis' skill is vastly overrated ( Bruno,Briggs,Vitali Klitschko fights proved). I know lot of boxing fans die for Mercer's Lewis performance but i prefer Big Daddy.
Well everyone's opinion is entitled of course. I rate him very highly and struggle to see many ATG s beating him "" At his best "".
Yes,basically i agree. But i think Lewis' biggest secret of his success is his outstanding punching power . Otherwise his defensive skill was limited and sometimes he was very easy to hit.
Well I won't argue about that. Lewis did have a tendency to drop arms and get clouted. More times than most, it never got as has far as the Mercer fight did, Lewis dropped em and got em out of there. In all fairness maybe Lewis made the Mercer fight harder than he should have, but I enjoyed it. And I have to say, a little part of me thought he'd maybe blown it.
