I think a lot of why older fights and fighters get a bad rap is that in some cases people today just don't have the patience to sit thru a few boring rounds to watch the fight explode. Also, many don't understand just watching the skills of a good jab, balance, footwork, and all those other things. Not saying any of this am I insinuating that old fights are at all dull. In all actuality, the old fights are way more exciting!

The shoulder roll was around before George Benton’s parents were even thought of. Mayweather Sr. was taught the shoulder roll by Del Williams, who trained with both Joe Louis and Eddie Futch back in the early 30’s.

While in prison, Jack Johnson was awarded a patent for the jab.

Joe Louis was toiling away at the workbench one cool summer night, when he observed his pet cat pawing at a ball of yarn.
Alas, he was hit by an epiphany.
"What if, after I throw one punch, I throw another one really quickly!"
The world was never the same.

Moorer dominated all night long. All he had to do was to move and stay away the last round.
If he does that, he's champion. Instead, he tried to trade with Foreman, which was a stupid decision.

Foreman wanted to knock him out. He threw a punch with the intention of knocking him out. He knocked him out.

    Nothing lucky about it.

Or Ali, Liston and Frazier for that matter. Or Duran, Leonard or Hagler. All of them retired decades ago after all!
