I repeat, only include heavies who never actually challenged for the crown in a world title bout, this isn't comprehensive of the best to never win a heavyweight belt; rather, it's only inclusive of those who never got the chance to fight for one. Heavies only .

As for recent guys, Joe Messi was a solid heavyweight that was on the cusp of a title shot but suffered a brain bleed that ended his career.

Another guy was Leotis Martin. He suffered a detached retina in his career defining win over Liston and didn't get his **** at Frazier because of it.

Sam Langford, fought some of the best and beat them but never fought for it

Ike Ibeuachi would have received a world title shot based on his talent, had he not been bat **** crazy and gone to prison for what he did to a prostitute.

    Machen, Page, Coetzee and Wilder?

Wilder was in a world title fight four months ago.
