    Based on what?
Sharkey won first fight, he was past his prime in rematch.
Why not? Outside of Baer win, Braddock didn't accomplish much at HW. Sharkey had 9 of 10 their best wins combined.
So what? One fight is not enough, Sharkey has deeper resume.
Not even close, Spinks against Sharkey's competition would finish with less wins than losses.
What is so funny? What Moorer did outside of beating Holyfield and getting destroyed in rematch?
Norton beat prime Ali, Foreman wouldn't beat Ali in dreams...
It was a lucky punch KO, I also wouldn't bet on Sharkey against Lewis but I'm pretty sure Sharkey would beat Maskaev and Ruiz.
No, he wouldn't. Sharkey thrived against bigger, slower and crude brawlers. He'd school Briggs.

That's why you said he'd have no chance against Michael Spinks, Joe Walcott or Floyd Patterson?

Again, explain it. What exactly Moorer did that makes him so much better than Sharkey?

Besides, even if you pick Moorer over Sharkey, you still have Tunney, Baer, Walcott, M. Spinks that are arguable and I forgot about Willard who was definitely worse.

Beating Mercado was pretty impressive given how his career played out. IMO his best performance, one of the most entertaining fights I've seen from him and against a guy who'd just KOed both Berbick and Shavers.

    .
I really don't get the myth of Michael Moorer. I know more of his career being film makes it easier to scrutinize, but still it's hardly as impressive as most make it out. His best wins:
    • Evander Holyfield
    • Francois Botha
    • Vaughn Bean
    • Axel Shultz
    • Bert Cooper
    • Alex Stewart
    • Leslie Stewart (LHW)
It's thin as is, but then even worse with a bit of context.

Stewart (keep in mind, this is a guy who apexed against a shot Pops) was up on points when Moorer got to him. The Bean fight was awful, close and 'particularly lackadaisical'. Bean wasn't all that anyway. Shultz was close and controversial, and Axel hadn't officially won a fight in two years anyway.

Bert Cooper nearly KOed him (one of my favourite fights) twice, and this version of Bert was getting on the coke and going off the rails. Stewart was never special and he nearly KOed more too. Botha was his best win without issue.

The Holyfield fight was God awful, and it was at a time where the two were unsure of themselves. Holyfield wasn't fighting as aggressive and definitively as he was at his best, due to excessive heart problems. Moorer had learned he couldn't blow out HWs and so adapted a box-and-move style (which he never perfected) and was mid-way through the transformation. The fact it was a closely contested fight says it all, and then an old Holyfield ruined him in the rematch.

IN HIS PRIME, Moorer was dropped by Everett Martin, Evander Holyfield, Bert Cooper and he was absolutely shook to his boots and held up by the ropes vs Stewart, and obviously KOed by an ancient Foreman.

Incredibly overrated, fun to watch? Sure, but still incredibly overrated.

I agree, that's why I asked why Moorer is so much better than Sharkey. Sure, Sharkey isn't Ali either and he had some tough wins too but I don't see any reason to laugh at this opinion. Sharkey at least fought the best of the best, Moorer fought Holyfield, old Foreman and second raters.

Yeah, and Moorer lost to Holyfield and Old Foreman, so he's clearly not all that anyway. I'd pick Sharkey to out-slick old Foreman anyday of the week.

Me too, Foreman was way too slow to beat Sharkey and I'm huge fan of old Foreman. Sharkey thrived against bigger guys, he needed speed advantage to look good.

Mobile guys who can counter-punch are perfect for beating old Foreman, guys like Sharkey, Walcott, Charles and Byrd would've took him to school.

I saw that fight, I was stationed at Chanute AFB, Illinois, on Oct 20 1979, Goetzee really nailed Leon with that right hand, down he went.

Have you ever watched films of Sharkey? Against Maloney, Dempsey, Loughran, Carnera 1, Delaney, McTigue, and Schmeling 1. They show he was a skilled boxer and a pretty good puncher.

Do you really rate Willard, Baer, Braddock, Leon Spinks, Hart, Corbett, Tommy Burns, Johansson, and yes, I would say Carnera, over a prime Sharkey?
I agree but you're kind of stacking the deck against Foreman by pitting a prime Sharkey against an old Foreman. Prime for prime Foreman wins. To big , too strong, and at that point in his career too fast.
