Probably one of the most unrealistically fantasized matches on this forum.

Hearns did not blow out Benitez and Mayweather was similar but better than Benitez.

If Maywether could take away Hearns' jab, Hearns would be in for a long fight.

Mayweather had better chin, stamina, defense, counterpunching, and a much higher ring IQ than Hearns.

Hearns possessed the tools to win all sorts of fantasy fights, but had a tendency to **** up in real life and either lose or make it harder on himself than it had to be.

So if Hearns stayed totally disciplined and fought behind a jab for the entire fight, he could win a competitive decision. If Maywether found mistakes in Hearns' fighting, he could exploit those and win a close decision.

 

Mayweather jr. couldn’t do much to mitigate one of the best and longest jabs in the game at that weight. Also, Tommy wasn’t called “Hitman” for nothing. When he lands a right behind the jab Mayweather can’t deal with, Mayweather would instinctively try to survive the rest of the round and Tommy would brutalize him. Hearns KO round 8ish.

I see it this way. Mayweather has the skills to handle himself. Hearns jab and just the threat of the right will shut down Floyd punch output which was on the low side anyway as a welterweight.
Floyd manages to make it to the final bell. Perhaps he gets dropped along the way.
Hell he may offer to buy Tommy a Bently in one if he carries him.

I could not agree more. However this fight would never have taken place because Floyd would never have done it.

 

I feel Floyd is more similar to Benitez than Leonard at 147. The Leonard-Hearns fight actually swung a few times, from what I remember. Though it's popularly remembered as Hearns boxing Leonard's ears off until Dundee said some famous words and Leonard went out and threw everything at Hearns. They each had their bull and matador moments though Hearns would certainly have been winning before the KO.
I can't see Floyd fighting like that against Hearns.

 

Hearns fought with a broken hand for half the fight, and still won relatively comfortably.
Which fighters took away Hearns jab?

 

Who knocked out Mayweather? That's a better question.

Hearns didn't control Hagler or Barkely with his jab.

Maywether took away the jabs of De La Hoya, Marquez, Guererro, Canelo, Corrales, and Genero. All had either great or very good jabs.

I'm just saying it's wrong to see this fight as if Hearns will just jab and totally neutralize Maywether. Hearns is the guy who had the history of falling off his gameplan whereas Maywether is the guy known for adapting and shifting strategy when something isn't going right.

 

This is kind of how I see it also, yet sometimes before I would see Tommy landing. Yet after thinking about it, Floyd would not give Tommy the opening to land so Tommy would outbox him and win like he did against Wilfred. Almost a duplicate fight, yet I think Floyd would be more banged up than Wilfred was after that fight.

 

Mayweather with a leaping left hook against Hearns?

Imagine them exchanging straight rights.

Mayweather has never been some athletic stick and move quicker than the opponent type guy.

I can see him having success with jabs to the body, but to land those jabs he has to put himself in range.

 

The problem here is the only jabs he took away were arguably those of Hoya. And I say arguably as Hoya may well have just faded down the stretch as he did every other fight.

Marquez was a much smaller man so taking away his jab is easy when you have athletic advantages over a smaller guy.

Canelo and Corrales, did they ever try jabbing at Floyd? I don't think they did although I haven't seen the Canelo fight for years now.

Guerrero or Hernandez, meh.
