Sorry, can you provide links to ‘fight canceled?’

And there’s a far leap between ‘not entirely committed’ to ‘devouring entire buffets, snorting bathtubs full of cocaine, stacking up hookers to the ceiling and drinking pure grain alcohol out of a firehose’ as those looking to find excuses for Duran claim.

Slice it anyway you want to, Duran had fought every couple of months or so (or less) for quite a long time. I’m a huge Duran fan but it had been like 4-5 years since he had taken a layoff as long as the 5 months, 5 days layoff he had for this fight — yet now for the first time in his entire professional career the answer is supposed to be ‘he needs more time’ rather than ‘get him back in the ring as quickly as possible.’

Truth is, he’d have been better off if he’d have defended the 147-pound title in Panama within 60 days of winning it against some lesser light and bridged straight into a rematch. But his team didn’t do that.

And the bottom line is, professional prizefighters are supposed to be professional. It’s literally your job to be in shape when you fight. If you aren’t, it’s no one else’s fault but your own.

Just to be clear I've never seen this documentary. So Leonard made the doco? It was his creation?

There's so much speculation and manipulating of theories per the whole saga of No Mas it's not funny. Who knows what Leonard really had in his head?

Realistically it worries neither of them. Duran fought his way past No Mas and Leonard is living a great life. They are actually good genuine friends and have been for ages.

Ya then you need to see the documentary. I think it was an espn 30 or 30 or a special on Espn .. But that was the jist of it. I really do not know if Ray wanted to make money ... but it was really embarrassing for him

Just check any US newspaper sports pages, dated Sept 11, 1980.
One reference would be: Muncie Evening Press (Muncie, Indiana); 11 Sep 1980, Thu; Page 21
Headline reads: "Leonard, Duran bout off".

The same story was reported outside of the US, in The Ottawa Citizen, as well (same date).

I'm not sure what elicited the need for a lot of the remainder of your post, to be frank.

Of course, it is the responsibility of the boxer and his team to make sure he is in shape for a match and I have not argued anything to the contrary.

The point, which has been debated for several pages now, is the idea of some that Duran was in top form for the rematch, which I currently do not agree with.

Ok Ray didn't "make" that doco. He was just a part of it for obvious reasons.

My city is about 80 000 from memory and we've had maybe 6 cases. I think we are actually clear now and my entire state is going great as well the last couple of weeks.

Australia is lucky in that we are have so few per square kilometre/mile comparative to many others.

How about you? It's running pretty rife over there?
