The same disgust everyone has for Luis Resto and Panama Luis or Margarito should be similair to what boxers who get caught using Peds deserve. People who get caught for peds should be banned from boxing and all wins changed to NC. You can even have a list of peds you can get a first strike for if caught and banned if it happens again and peds that get you permabanned. Guys like Holyfield, Roy Jones, Shane Mosley all got caught yet are beloved and not condemned like Luis Resto and Margarito. Why though? Do you feel an opponent takes less damage vs someone on peds than loaded gloves? Roided boxer with strength and infinate energy would do a lot of damage, arguable more than loaded gloves. So the punishment should be similair. I suspect plenty of boxers of having loaded gloves in the past (Chavez/Trinidad) or peds (Marguez/Pac/Floyd,AJ,Tyson,Wlad and many more) but if they are not caught they get away with it. But should be on thin. The consequences are too lenient. Canelo, Milker whyte all got slaps on the wrists in recent years. We say we care so much when a boxer dies or gets turned into a vegetable like G-man. Yet when push comes to shove Ped using is only frowned upon rather than met with severe punishment and disgust. If we care about the sport this aspect really needs to be dealt with. Beter testing and much harsher punishment. A guy like pharmacy Miller should have been banned for life the last time. Yet does it again cause there is no real punishment. We as fans have to be more outraged about things like this so the problem of peds in boxing get fixed. There should not be boxers getting away with cheating just because they are rich snd popular either. Boxing has a lot of problems that need to be fixed and this is one of them.
Roids only help with endurance, it doesn`t help a fighters power while loaded gloves makes punches more painful etc. The drugs taken by athletes differ widely based on the performance needs of the sport.
Because every top athlete in almost every sport is doing it....why wouldnt you? You wouldnt fill a racing car with cooking oil and expect it to perform well
Knuckledusters can maim for life. Give a boxer a choice: he can do peds, or have loaded gloves every fight. Which do you think they will take?
I think loaded gloves is worse, but I totally agree people should be more critical of the use of PEDs. Muscle strength, endurance, punching power, rehydrating 20+lbs, all things that can easily be done with PED's and give huge and often dangerous advantages in the ring. Remember G. Jones v Lebedev? Everyone watching was surprised how Jones ever made the Cruiser limit looking 240+ lbs at the night. He just kept coming while getting outboxed, deforming Lebedev's face and eventually winning by stoppage, and Lebedev's health and career at risk. Then he got busted, and there was your answer. Fans also seem to forget about a fighter's drug history after their careers. The phrase "Prime Toney/prime Holyfield/prime RJJ would have destroyed that guy" is often used, while knowing that those fabled versions were obviously the drug fueled ones.
Loaded gloves can kill a man and lead to permanent brain damage. There have been a number of tragic cases of that happening. For example, that rat Luis Resto vs Billy Collins Jr (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy_Collins_Jr.) Almost all the top guys are on PEDs these days, and it really just makes them fitter, gives them more endurance or allows them to train harder. It doesnt make them any better at boxing or give them the direct potential of killing someone or giving them permanent brain damage. These days taking PEDs just allows you to be doing what all the other top guys are doing, and not be at a clear disadvantage beyond your control. BIG difference between the two.
Cause loaded wraps is assault with a deadly weapon, while peds are naked to the eye, if that makes any sense.
Maybe because loaded gloves are a thing of the past, people do have short memories ? PEDS, particularly steroids are only good for muscle building and short bursts of energy, still highly dangerous. Tommy Morrison was hooked apparently, and Mercer took advantage after 4/5 rounds.
