Was Liston really greater than Charles by any objective measure? Think about it was the fighters that Liston beat superior to those Charles beat? And I believe that Charles beat the greater number of ranked fighters. I think it's a case of rating Liston over Charles because Liston is bigger.
Well, most lists have an element of subjectivity no matter how objective they claim to be... but regardless, Liston between 1958-60 was a wrecking ball and would have been a tough ask for any (and I mean any) heavyweight in history, Ali included. His title reign itself, barring the Patterson KOs was unimpressive but he was on the slide by the time he met Ali - not taking anything away from Ali as the first fight was an incredible win by any standard. Charles did put together a very good run in his time as champ but, having been around in the years Tyson was dominating, it's hard to imagine if you weren't there just what an impact a fighter like that has on the sport, even in a short time. Liston was similar in that way.

At 20 Patterson was fighting at 166lbs. Generally around 164lbs Floyd who was a January 1935 baby weighed 170lbs for the June Durelle fight and 175lbs for the October fight with Brad in 1955
Great LHW, not a great HW. He didn't have any wins at HW over "great" HW's. Ok he beat Joe Louis who was over the hill by then (and was further over the hill when Rocky beat him). I don't consider JJ Walcott a "great" HW champ. Unless your definition of "great" is way lower than mine is.
Charles weighed also 161 at 21(you are cherry picking higher weights) . and he started his career at 157 pounds, patterson never ever weighed that low. Jaque mate
