Brook sold his career for PPV loot and was out of his depth both times he stepped up to elite level.

No shame in being a non elite World Champion

    That's exactly how it was.

I don't think many on this thread were fans during that period. They couldn't have been.

It was a terrible move in hindsight. But he was frustrated at the time.

Why did you bother asking me, if you were going to ignore the post you fool?

    Did you read the link?

I thought you’d rather take Joe’s word over Frank W’s?

    Read the link.

Immediately after beating Lacy, he tried to fight Kelly Pavlik, who at the time was an unknown NABF champ, at the weight BELOW.

And you wonder why me and other people criticise him?

By his own admission, he tried to fight Pavlik when he was a nobody. Yet when Pavlik had done something and a fight would have been very big and interesting, he said that he wasn’t interested as Pavlik hadn’t done anything to warrant a fight. Ha!

    Exactly!

To say Joe was deluded would be putting it lightly...

The situation with Pavlik was bizarre.

What he says in that link is ridiculous.

I agree. Makes you wonder why Joe didn't change his job if nobody was worth fighting...

He was a bottler, end of. Enzo Mac had more guts than him.

    He had no class.

He could have complimented fighters like Dawson, and wished them well for the future etc. But he didn’t.

    It was:

“Dawson’s done nothing to warrant a fight with me and he doesn’t excite me”

This was a guy who fought Mario Veit in a rematch, after he’d already beaten him in a round just a few years earlier.

It would be interesting to see how the careers of Chris Eubank, Nigel Benn, Steve Collins and Carl Froch would have gone if by the age of 30 their hands were so bad that they couldn't always train properly and had to adjust the way in which they punch and lose a lot of their power as a result. It says a lot that Calzaghe put in his best performances post injury, took the 0's of Two World Champions.

He seemed better around 96, 97, 98 than he did between the Reid and Lacy fights. Made the weight strong, banged hard and just dazzled. His hands were ****ed after the Reid fight, even going into it but utterly after.

But harsh to say out of his depth in the Spence fight, it was a relatively competitive fight. Spence was the better fighter but he wasn't out of his depth
