I am walking a buddy through some old fights. I threw Trinidad vs. Vargas at him and we also scored the De La Hoya fight. Since then he has become a Trinidad fan so I hit him with a few more fights including the Trinidad - Campas fight. I haven’t seen this fight in a long time and I think I may have watched it only once. Well...I just watched it and man...these men were throwing leather, beautiful combinations. It almost looked like a shorter more brutal version of Corrales - Castilio I. The way Tito finished the fight with his combinations were a thing of beauty. Campas had a style reminiscent of Chavez, but much less head movement. I cannot remember seeing Trinidad infight so consistently in a fight. Either way, it was a great fight to look at again and a great one for anyone to checkout with time for a quick war with beautiful combination punching. This should be ranked higher in the all-time fights.
Show your buddy the Rafa vs Vazquez fights ... Brutal combos ... And talk about give 1 , take 1 .. They were wars
Thanks for the suggestion Surf! I remember those fights. I have been thinking about showing him those...but it I’m correct, isn’t Vazquez still suffering from those fights. I feel some kind of way about that...but I will share them with my pal. He will definitely enjoy it
You aren’t lying and Trinidad was looked really hurt for a split second.[/QUOTE] That was Trinidad style tho, get knocked down, get up, get the knockout and he did against so many different styles that is hard to deny how effective he was.
Yes .. You are right. Vaz lost his eye because of those fights ,, and it was equally brutal on Rafa ... They basically ended both of their careers
Sometimes, this sport is not actually a sport...it is like war/torture. There are a couple of fights that I find it hard to watch because of that....Gatti - Mayweather is the first one that comes to mind. In hindsight Gatti had no business in there with Mayweather who was extremely motivated to prove something. It’s like see Superman getting killed. Morales and Barerra. They seemed to be trying to actually kill each other. I am still not sure what got them so motivated to give so much to the fight.
Haha! Tito was throwing his hook with soooo much conviction. When he missed his arm almost wrapped around him like a self hug. They don’t punch like that anymore.
I agree. I think comparing it to torture is pretty accurate. I got headaches watching kostya tszyu beat on guys at times.
If he wasn’t wearing gloves, Yori Boy would have done the thing where he punches into Trinidad’s chest and pulls out his heart and shows it to him while it’s still beating so it registers before he knows he’s dead. That’s why they made Campas wear gloves, to save lives. Seriously, I rewatched just because I saw this thread. What a fight.
