How high would you rank Mayweather - Pacquaio in 'Greatest Performances of All Time'?

I think it's the greatest win anyone has had for like the last 20 years.

I've been called a Floyd Nuthugger more than once for it, so I am, allegedly, biased.

 

I won't be putting it up there, anytime soon.

Fair play to Mayweather for doing what he had to do, in the circumstances, and in the way that he usually did. But, as a contest in its own right, it bombed.

It was a fight, which had more financial relevance than it did a sporting one and it turned out to be a rather expensive damp squib.

 

It’s was the first pfp 1 v. pfp 2 fight since Whitaker v. Chavez, and Floyd had an easier time than Whitaker. Floyd was also 38 and more past prime than Pacquiao. It was also one of the biggest fights in history. So yeah, a big deal. But Corrales and Canelo were still probably better wins for Mayweather.

 

As a performance? It's pretty average IMO. I mean, Floyd fought more negatively than I've seen him fight since Baldomir. He was also clearly declined and in his late 30s. Floyd himself has plenty of better performances IMO.

As a win? Also pretty average. I mean, Mayweather beat the P4P #2 with near ease, so it's an excellent win in that sense, but Pac was injured and was like 5 years past prime. So it's not a win over an ATG, it' a high-level win over an injured Pound for Pound elite.

 

Wasn't even a top 15 performance of Floyd's career, IMO.

 

I'd be totally on Floyd's jock if he'd done it 5 years earlier. As it was, the match had lost much of its lustre by the time they met. Someone called this 'better never than late' and I'm inclined to agree.

 

pac was one of his best wins.But to me Corales was Floyd’s best win

 

It really was dominant in the sense that there’s only a few rounds you can score for Pacquiao. Floyd didn’t do that much in the rounds he won, but that was one of the qualities that makes him so great. I see similar qualities in Fury although I’m not trying to compare the two apart from that certain attribute

 

Saw it live and probably wont see it again for me nothing sticks out in that fight it was a very boring affair.

Far from a great performance imo.

 

I think though Pac was definitely a better win than Canelo.

 

It was "air boxing" at its finest. Both fighters barely landed anything sgnificant yet Mayweather was the consensus winner among the specialists. They call this ring generalship

 

Incredibly boring fight but a great win, quite the paradox. I knew not to expect too much from Pacquiao despite his p4p ranking and the media hype since it was an obvious clash of styles that mixed like water and oil.

Floyd completely shut out Pacquiao's offense and for all his lack of punching power, stopped him dead in his tracks. There were none of those leaping bombs or fast flurries we had known the Filipino for. For that, Floyd should be given a lot of credit since nobody, not even Marquez made Pac man look that bad.

However, that still doesn't excuse the fact the fight should have happened sooner. I blame both of them for taking what seemed like eons to make such an obvious PPV worthy fight happen. The so called shoulder excuse (ironic given Floyd's infamous shoulder roll technique) I do not buy for one minute. He did not look like and injured fighter and held both arms up multiple times and punched with both hands at high speed. Even if it's true, that isn't Floyd's fault and Pacquiao looked like a sore attempting to create drama for a rematch. This, ultimately, is what lowers the value of the fight. The funny thing is, Floyd knew this would happen and predicted he wouldn't be given credit.

 

It’s the only time either Canelo or Pac was made to look bad like that.
