You don't want to take the knowledge that has been gained in the last 1000 years? Then your analogy makes little sense.

They used to train down in weight back then. If you going 20+ rounds you can't have any fat on you. If the limit was only 12 rounds, Corbett would be heavier than 185-190. More like 195-200, which is still a 20 pound+ weight advantage for Corbett. Corbett who looks to be about 6'2" tall would have a clear height edge as well.

While I think GGG is an all time puncher at 160 pounds, I don't think he hit harder than some of Corbett's opponents, who used very light gloves.

While I think GGG has good footwork, and can cut off the ring, he's not in Corbett's class as a mover. In the middle of the ring this fight is Corbett's.

    He was 184 for Fitzsimmons.

Why would you want to make him fatter and slower? He's listed as 6'1 btw. Their sizes are not actually that disparate.

I guess we disagree then. Corbett moves, alright, but he doesn't seem to be a very good puncher. His technique doesn't seem impressive to me. He seems a bit like a bigger Proksa to me (except that Proksa looks better on film) and GGG had no problems in cutting him off.

This is what a 37 yr old G after how many fights both amateur and pro? Not to mention the fact that Sanchez messed with his style a bit too much IMO.
With that said and done he still got jobbed against Canelo both times. Only guy I actually have beating G is the Ukrainian guy he fought last year.

I had it a draw vs Derevyanchenko with the KD the difference. That said, if he'd had different judges, he might have gotten a legitimate loss. Very close fight. Derevyanchenko looked smoking that night.

Don't you get it. This is what people are doing for Corbett.

They've seen a few short minutes on a jerky camera in the fight he loses his championship.

Corbett taught Tunney everything he knew.

Is there ever a time when either

    A) Corbett failed to land a clean punch

    B) Golovkin failed to get by a clean punch

I will say this is a fair comment. The footage is pretty awful.

If Corbett had been so bad, Fitzsimmons would have knocked him out quickly. He knew how to protect himself and he could hurt opponents (although that wasn't his style).

This is one of the things I meant when I said Sanchez tinkered with his style too much. When you watch G's European fights he blends offense and defense smoother. Sanchez changed that for the worse IMO
