I agree, but also Joe's hands didn't allow him to carry the power to move up so early. While Froch was a hugely entertaining fighter to watch, among most in the era as it usually felt like a 50/50 fight before they got into the ring, I do agree with other posters that he had elements of luck in the Pascal, Taylor, Dirrell, and Groves fights. Even the Kessler fights. Different referees, judges or levels of flatness and dust clouds or antimatter and he could have had a very different record. Highly entertaining career and path. Calzaghe, however, would have beaten him as or more clearly than Ward did. His style made for fun fights, due to his positives and flaws. Even if he is a flat earther and questionable in other personality traits!
I respect your opinion, but I don’t think that Joe would have moved up earlier even if he’d had been injury free and 100% healthy.
his hands his hands anyone thought it was hos punching technique that caused such major problems in both hands
Maybe not. In an easy world with Frank back then, even with his injury issues it was easy to keep the dosh coming in...but in an ideal world where the best fights are always made I like to think he would have...I'm half Welsh too, so may be somewhat biased!
This. Joe simply didn't know how to punch, he hadn't ever been taught. Likely he was connecting with the wrong knuckles all the time.
This content is protected Even Enzo Calzaghe admitted he thought deep down that Eubank was the man and would be too good for his boy, when Eubank stepped in to face Joe https://books.google.co.uk/books?id...Q#v=onepage&q=Collins eubank business&f=false
Surely the reason Froch fights often felt fifty fifty was because of who he was fighting? Froch wouldn't have been a fifty fifty fighter if he was in with Manfredo, Pudwill, Mkrtchyan (insert massive long list of terrible Calzaghe opponents for the best part of a decade.)
Pascal, Dirrell and Groves and Mack etc had never done anything. Whereas Brewer, Mitchell and Reid etc had.
Mack was a gimme but the rest had clearly done 'something.' The reality is that prime Froch going in with Brewer and Mitchell would have probably been a favourite, and going in against the vast majority of Joe's CV would have battered the lot. Froch basically had one fight after he became world champion where you knew he wouldn't be troubled, and that was Mack. Calzaghe had well into double figures pointless fights. Very frustrating for fans. Even the biggest Calzaghe supporters had no interest in fights like Ashira and Manfredo.
Think it was more the kit he used to use in his dads knackered gym. He mentions something about it in his autobiography.
Yeah he said a lot of shyte in it toys way past best i d get no credit beating him to fight him two years later and try and take credit for it could never really tell weather Joe wanted cash or legacy as he chopped and changed it that many times where as froch was always about the legacy
wonder what old barry hearns thinks about all this since he used to manage eubanks during the good old days when he was like the slave master and black boxers like whyteleafe and eubanks were like his slaves - in his own words. Also wonder what he thinks about his close friend jeffrey epstein no longer being around, and whether he would have been a special guest at ringside in the hearns paradise mansion back garden VIP extravagansa?
Once bones are broken, the hands are permanently damaged mate. Amazing that he achieved so much with a massive handicap.
