Not true according to his longtime trainer Amilcar Brusa, in a interview on one of the Spanish channels in July 1992, only Fernandez and Rodrigo Valdes knocked him down, I also read an autobiography on Monzon, that also was in Spanish, that confirms what Brusa said.

    Are you serious?

What would watching him get floored three times and lose to a fringe guy do to his rep?

There are guys in this thread who posted today who don't even believe that happened. You've read that, right? Do you know why they don't believe it? They didn't SEE IT.

What would watching him lose soundly on all three cards against a guy with two wins ... who finished his career with a losing record ... do to his rep?

What would losing to a guy with a losing record do to Hagler's rep? Because losing to Willie Monroe apparently hurts it. Right?

People on this thread insist they KNOW Monzon lost, but you tell us to FORGET it. Which is easy to do, because we never saw it to begin with.

Can you forget Hagler losing to Leonard, even if I tell you to? If I say Leonard-Hagler, the images from that fight immediately spring to mind.

If you could watch Monzon getting trounced and dropped three times and lose to a journeyman no name, it would probably be difficult to forget.

Seeing a guy lose changes the way you think of him, just like only watching him win changes the way you look at him.

I don't necessarily believe that Cambreiro floored him. I mean, you think we'd know he was down three times by the same guy. Not that this is the case either, but if you wanted a guy to have an impressive record, telling people the same guy floored him 3x and beat him wouldn't help any.

You're the guy who refuses to believe Monzon got dropped by Cambeiro. But I have an agenda? (LOL)

Okay, see you around. Have a good time at the lounge.

I read both English and Spanish, that is what his trainer said, Brusa trained him his whole career, I also read the autobiography that was written in Spanish.

Are you reading what your fellow posters are saying here? Still want to know what seeing those bouts would accomplish?

I'm not sure. I mean there's no film of it, and I just did a quick search and couldn't find any articles or pictures on it either, which would definitely help. I don't think boxrec just made it up either. Boxrec may make a mistake like "Greg Page floored Bonecrusher Smith in the 2nd round, (when it was really the 1st), but they're not going to get the number of knockdowns wrong, unless the referee did a poor job, which seems unlikely that all three would be ruled poorly. Idk

Seeing a guy lose in the early years of his career doesnt mean a great deal to me,likewise Hagler losing a fight to Leonard when he was clearly on the wane.
How many all time greats got gravelled in their early years?
Benny Leonard ,Henry Armstrong, Jack Dempsey, and Jack Johnson for a start.

    Yes.

    Yes?

Yes? That's what I asked... ...Still waiting... ...?

    I don't know. I'm asking about Monzon.

    I haven't. I've asked a question.

Errr, we're still not getting any closer to an answer to my question, are we?

My memory isn't the sole arbiter on Monzon's reputation.

    OK.

You asserted: "I think Monzon's rep would take a HUGE hit."

    I asked: Why?

I'm still none the wiser, as to why you think Monzon's reputation "would take a HUGE hit".
